Black Knight is the fourth book in the Royal Elite series by Rina Kent. It's a stand-alone, I read it as such and I had no problem getting into the story. The only reason I wished I had read the previous book(s) is that Elsa and Aiden were an interesting couple.

This book is not your typical light-hearted romance. It has some dark elements and it's not suitable for some readers. If you have a problem with any of the following events I would recommend thinking really hard about whether you should read the book or not. Parental abandonment, bullying, depression, sociopathy, cutting, attempted suicide, teenage alcoholism, drugs, obsession. The worst of all for me where the fat-shaming and the bulimia which were forced upon Kimberly from her mother who is a narcissist. I didn't have a problem with any of the previous triggers, but Kimberly's behavior when it came to food was sickening to read. While I was reading the book I wondered why Kimberly's father wasn't objecting to the abuse Kimberly was receiving from her mother. It's later explained, but I still wasn't 100% satisfied with the excuse. 

I wasn't immediately drawn into the story to be honest. It took me a while to get used to the characters and I found Xander's bullying too much at times. He had a very solid reason for pushing Kimberly away, although I was wishing that he wouldn't do it the way he did. For a brief second I wondered if the book was going to have a happy ending. He was more complex as a character than I thought. He even had some pleasant surprises waiting for us.

I loved the epilogue. Yes, there are 2 epilogues and they are my favorite kind because we saw Xander and Kimberly many years into the future. I liked that and at the same time I found it a little weird because Ronan and Teal's book is next and it's set when the characters are still in high school, just as in this one. 

If you don't have a problem with the darker themes of this book, then you should read it!
