HAH - BT banner

Hot and Heavy, an all-new steamy, forbidden romance from New York Times bestselling author Erika Wilde, is available now!

01 Hot and Heavy

Prim and proper secretary Melodie Turner has been in lust for her boss for years . . . and she's finally going to do something about it. P.I. Cole Sommers might be able to barely resist her sexy new attitude and flirtatious behavior, but when she takes a cue from his current case and decides to seduce Cole’s mind with highly provocative letters, she knows his body won't be very far behind...
Cole is definitely in over his head. He's got more cases than he can handle, but all he can think about is taking his secretary to bed, turning her over his knee, and showing her what happens to naughty girls who don’t behave. At every turn, Melodie is there, taunting him, teasing him, making him burn with a deep, undeniable need. But Cole promised her father that he’d protect her—even from himself—which means she’s off-limits.
Only he hadn't counted on being the target of Melodie's irresistible sensual assaults. Nor had he planned to lose his hardened heart in the battle...

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Hot and Heavy is the 2nd stand-alone book in the Some Like it Hot series by Erika Wilde. The series features the Sommers' siblings. Cole is Joelle's brother from Hot and sexy and Melodie is his assistant who has been pinning for him for a long time. When Cole is in need of a date for one of his cases, she is offering her services, but he refuses to accept them and Melodie decides to go all in and prove him that she is the one he needs.

I liked Melodie. She is feisty and I always love a woman who goes for what she wants. Cole on the other hand was not always my favorite person. I wanted to hit him with some of his files and make him see how dense he was. That man can be very stubborn to a frustrating point.

The book was a good buddy on a hot June afternoon. I liked this one better than the previous book. I thought that both the mystery and the characters were better developed, even if Cole was frustrating sometimes. I would recommend the book.

Excerpt
“Take the cuffs off, please?” she said, giving him sweet and accommodating to get what she wanted. Stretching across the console, he unlocked the metal bracelets, freeing her. “Behave yourself.” She rubbed her chafed wrists. “Thank you,” she said curtly. Opening her door, she stepped out of the vehicle and headed for the street, not his house. He scrambled from the car, his curses echoing in the night. “Where do you think you’re going?” he called after her. She didn’t bother looking back. “Home, where you should have taken me.” Before she could retrieve her cell phone from her purse to call a car service, Cole was standing in front of her, his face reflecting impatience and something much more dangerous. She opened her mouth, intending to tell him to go away, but the words never had a fair chance to form as he bent low, jammed his broad shoulder into her midsection, and hefted her up and over his back like a sack of grain. Her breath escaped in a sharp whoosh as she flipped upside down, arms flailing and her bottom sticking up in the air. Blood rushed to her head, making her dizzy, and it took her a few seconds to regain her bearings enough to express her indignation. Gripping handfuls of his shirt, she braced her fists on his backside and tried twisting her body around to look at him, but only managed to cause a crick in her neck. “What do you think you’re doing?” His arm locked tight around the back of her knees to hold her in place as his stride quickened, jarring her with each step he took. “I’m taking you inside.” She could feel the muscles along his shoulders and back shifting, rippling, bunching as he moved, and the warm, masculine scent of him filled every breath she took, intoxicating her. “You can’t keep manhandling me this way!” “I wouldn’t have to if you’d do as I say,” he said rationally. Releasing a low, peeved growl, she squirmed and wriggled and kicked her legs, railing at him to put her down. Ignoring her demands, he slipped his arm lower around her calves and clamped his other hand on her bare upper thigh to keep her still. His callused fingers abraded her sensitive skin and she gasped as a bright flare of desire electrified her. Seething at his audacity and the absurdity of the situation, she blurted out, “I ought to bite you!” And the first place she’d sink her teeth into was his perfect ass, she decided. “I’ll bite back,” he drawled, his thumb stroking up her thigh, which quivered at his intimate caress. “And I’ve got access to a whole lot of tender flesh, so you’d better think twice before doing something so rash.”

Blog tour: Evidence of Desire (Courting Justice #2) by Lexi Blake

A fast-paced contemporary romance that sizzles from the New York Times bestselling author of Order of Protection where passion for the aw isn't the only thing heating up the courtroom. Isla Shayne knows she's in over her head. As former all-star linebacker Trey Adams's personal lawyer, she's used to handling his business dealings and private financial matters, not murder charges. She needs to find an experienced criminal attorney who speaks her client's language. David Cormack of Garrison, Cormack and Lawless is exactly what she needs in the courtroom—and the only man she wants in the bedroom. For David, taking on the Adams case means diving back into a world he thought he'd left behind and colliding head on with tragic possibilities he's in no mood to face. There's a reason professional football is in his past and no matter how close Isla gets to the truth he intends to leave it there. But long days working on the case together lead to hot nights in each other's arms. As their feelings grow, the case takes a deadly twist that could change the game between the two lovers forever.

Review:

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Evidence of Desire was a book that got me hooked from the first page. I was wondering who killed Trey's wife and I really didn't want him to be the killer. That particular plotline was written very well and I would have never guessed anything of what was revealed to us. The ending to that story was satisfying enough, but there is one spot that's bitter and once you read it, you will understand why I am saying that. Mostly though, it was a good end and I liked that a lot of people got something good out of it.

Does anybody else think that Margarita is going to be Noah's lady? I think that we were teased about them in a subtle way. I can't wait to see how Noah will be tamed since he is such a wild playboy. His book is going to be next and I am really looking forward to that.

The author did an amazing job at introducing us and explaining what CTE is. It made me question some stuff and it made me realize that not everything is as good as it seems and may cause long term problems when it comes to athletes (other than the obvious and already known problems). This was a dark side of the book that I wasn't expecting. The hero, David, is haunted by that and his fathers Alzheimers and we see him struggle with wanting a future with Isla and not wanting to make her go through what Porcia and his mother did. It was a very human reaction and it made sympathize with him, even when I wanted to call him doufus and tell him to get the girl.

And speaking of said, girl, I have to say that she was one of my favorites. She stood on her ground, was professional when I would have lost it and she fought for the truth, justice and the man she loves. What more can I ask from a heroine? She is one of the book's strong points and one of the reasons you should read this book.

Isla couldn’t believe she was doing this, but the minute she got a good look at David Cormack without his suit on she knew there was no going back. She’d been ready to make a pot of tea and wait for him to come out of the shower when Erin Taggart had appeared in the kitchen. “Not jumping his bones, then?” she’d asked as she dragged a bottle of water out of the fridge. “He wants to take it slow.” She was aware of how disappointed she’d sounded. “No man who looks at a woman the way that one looks at you wants to take things slow. He’s scared you’re too good for him or something stupid like that,” she said. “I should know. I held off my gorgeous hottie for way too long because he was a tiny bit younger than me. Don’t waste time. Take command. And then when he’s all in, give that control up. That always works for me. ’Night.” There was something in the way the redhead smiled, something intimate and soft. Something Isla wanted for herself again. She’d had it as a girl with Austin. She wanted to know how it felt to have that connection as a woman. So she’d made the decision. Maybe for the first time in her life, she’d genuinely made the decision to be brave, to go after what she wanted with a singular purpose, to put herself out there and see if she was bait enough to catch the one fish she wanted. Though first she needed some fishing gear. According to Noah, that was in the nightstand drawer. She’d stepped in and taken off her clothes. All in. Just like a poker game. If he refused to play, she would be devastated and potentially never be able to face the man again, but she’d felt almost compelled to undress and walk to the entry of that sexy natural stone shower. She’d stood there and looked, really looked at David Cormack. He’d been turned away from her, his back on full display. He was beautifully male, his muscles defined by years of athleticism. His back was strong, his butt practically perfect, and he was held up with strong legs. But his head hung low and she could swear she felt how lonely he was. She hadn’t realized how lonely she was until she’d met him. “David?” He started, every muscle tensing, and then he turned, though he mostly moved his torso as though trying to keep his private parts private. His eyes latched onto her, but he didn’t say a word. Oh, she wanted to run. He was far too gorgeous. She wasn’t in his league. She knew she was attractive, but she wasn’t even close to being in the same condition he was in. He’d been an elite athlete and he’d obviously never stopped working out. She could stand to lose a few pounds. And if those pounds and the roundness of her hips ran him off, then so be it. She was done sitting around and hoping she got what she wanted. At least she would know. “I don’t want to go slow.” For a second, she was almost sure he would tell her to go. Then he turned and he was standing there in his full glory, as though let- ting her see what he had to offer. When she simply stared, he crossed the space between them and, without a word, his hands cupped her face and his mouth was on hers. The minute they touched, something sparked to life inside her, something wild she’d never felt before. It seemed to start in her toes, making them curl as the sensation rushed through her system. Heat and anticipation and pure joy. It had been forever since a man kissed her like this. Maybe never. The only thing that compared was the sweet high school fumbling between her and Austin. He’d been eager, but he had no idea what he was doing. David Cormack knew how to kiss. He mastered her mouth with his, soft when he needed to be and then rough, sending a thrill through her system that burned a path straight to her pussy. He brushed his lips against hers and then zeroed in on her lower lip, biting gently and sucking briefly before another soft kiss allowed her to breathe again. And then when she was ready to beg, his tongue surged in, rubbing soft velvet against her own. “Tell me you’re sure,” he said against her mouth as his hands moved down. “I’m sure,” she replied with a breathy whisper. He could throw her up against the side of the shower and take her then and there and she would be perfectly satisfied. “Because there’s no going back. I’ve been a good boy up until this point. I’ve been civilized, Isla. I’ve played the gentleman around you, but if you let me in, I’ll invade and you’ll see the real man under- neath the suit. I’ll be demanding and overly protective and I’ll want you every fucking minute of the day.” And that was bad, how? She’d been on the outside looking in for so long, the idea of being someone’s center, being the person for him, made her heart ache with longing. “Please touch me, David. I want the real you, every dirty, possessive part of you.” His hands found her hips and he dragged her against him, their bodies coming together for the first time. He was warm, his skin soft over the steel of his muscular body. She took a moment, letting her arms wrap around him, her breasts against his chest, that hard erection of his cradled to her belly. This was sweet intimacy. Yes, it would lead to something wild, but for a moment she basked in the comfort of another body against hers. He stepped back, taking her with him and bringing them into the warmth of the shower. He seemed to understand she needed a moment, and he followed her lead perfectly. One hand held her to him while the other smoothed back her now-wet hair as he brushed light kisses over her forehead and down to her nose, lavishing her with affection she’d been starved without. He stood like that with her, learning her body with his hands and mouth. “See,” he said with the sexiest chuckle as he leaned over and ran his tongue along the shell of her ear. “We’re still taking it slow. I could do this for hours and I haven’t even gotten to your tasty parts yet. You’re sweet, Isla. I could eat you up. Are you going to let me eat you up?” She nodded. One hand tangled in her hair, gently drawing her back and forc- ing her to look up at him. His eyes were hot, his jaw tight with arousal. “Talk to me. I won’t let you disconnect from me when we’re intimate. Tell me. ‘‘Yes, David, I want you to eat me up.’” “Yes, David. I want you to eat me up.”

Taking Something (Give Me Something #2) by Elizabeth Lee

Rating: 3.5 stars
Publication date: February 18 2014

Blurb:

I know what you're thinking. “You were such a jerk, Nick!”  Believe me, I know I screwed up the best thing I had going in my life, but that was kind of my thing. I’d learned how to run cons before I could even form complete sentences, and I'd always been selfish.  But I changed.  Lila forgave me, my brother and I were getting along, and I was trying to make a name for myself in the music world.
At least that was what I was trying to do when I negotiated my way into the recording studio with pop superstar Sadie Sinclair. I thought it would be a piece of cake—charm my way into her heart and into her record label's good graces.
Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I got mixed up in a web of lies, manipulation, and deception. A web that had me questioning my motives and desires altogether.
Was the fame and fortune really worth the price?
Review:

I have never read before a book that it has only a male point of view. Nick is the only person who tells the story and I think that happened to keep the reader guessing with whom he would end up with. I haven't read the first book, but from what I got he was involved in a triangle before. Not many people can say that they were a part of a triangle more than once. It's clear that Nick is only using Sadie, but you never know what is going to happen. I had the feeling that the book would turn out to be something similar to Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and I was freaked out (a lot!).

Nick was a likeable character most of the time. Gia was good. Landry is the one I loved and I wanted to see him happy. I was about to demand a book about him, but the author covered that in her story. Sadie is the craziest person I have ever seen in a book. What I didn't like was the similarity Sadie had with Miley Cyrus. A sweetheart who got famous while she was young by singing and acting, now wants to act more sexually and leave her sweet persona behind.

I want to warn you that the book contains cheating. I know that everyone is not ok with that and I thought the reader should know. I have already told you about the triangle so I won't comment further. I would  also like to warn you about Nick's way's of persuasion.

When I'm not writing or playing the part of wife and mother, you can find me dancing back-up for Beyonce, singing back-up for Miranda, or sunning myself on the beach with a drink in hand.  Here's the thing about being born and raised in a small town—you have a very vivid imagination!  Now, I channel it all to create stories where the girl always ends up with the right guy, first kisses are magical, and a happy ending is just that!

The Deep End of the Sea by Heather Lyons

Rating: 5/5 stars
Publication Date: February 13th 2014

Blurb:

What if all the legends you’ve learned were wrong?

Brutally attacked by one god and unfairly cursed by another she faithfully served, Medusa has spent the last two thousand years living out her punishment on an enchanted isle in the Aegean Sea. A far cry from the monster legends depict, she’s spent her time educating herself, gardening, and desperately trying to frighten away adventure seekers who occasionally end up, much to her dismay, as statues when they manage to catch her off guard. As time marches on without her, Medusa wishes for nothing more than to be given a second chance at a life stolen away at far too young an age.

But then comes a day when Hermes, one of the few friends she still has and the only deity she trusts, petitions the rest of the gods and goddesses to reverse the curse. Thus begins a journey toward healing and redemption, of reclaiming a life after tragedy, and of just how powerful friendship and love can be—because sometimes, you have to sink in the deep end of the sea before you can rise back .

Review:

You want to know why I haven’t married yet? Because I have yet to
ask the girl who owns my heart entirely, let alone actually tell her
what she means to me. I’ve been too selfish to do so, because I’ve been fearful that once I do, things will change between us for the worse if she does not feel the same way, and I know I can’t lose her. So I’ve held on to what we have, even though I want to be with her more than anything else in the entire universe. See, I am completely, irrevocably, in love with the best person I know. And I have been for a very long time.”

I want more Medusa and Hermes!! I loved those two both as individuals and as a team. I wouldn't mind a novella about them in the future. I am going to read this book again someday. I was hooked from the beginning. It doesn't matter if you are a fan of Greek mythology books or not, I guarantee you will at least like The Deep End of the Sea. I loved it!

Book boyfriend alert! Hermes has officially become a book boyfriend. He has done so many things for Medusa and sees her as the person she is. He fought for her. He was sweet and amazing. I shipped Dusa and Hermes from the first page.

Meadows is a lovely girl. She has compassion and a big heart. She doesn't want anyone to be harmed and that's the reason she sees herself as a monster. I never thought of her that way and I don't think anyone will. She is selfless. I would love someone like her as a friend.

Medusa is not the creature everyone thought she was. She has a kind heart and deeply regrets that she took some lives. She of course didn't do it on purpose, but the guilt was there. She lives isolated on an island and only has 2-3 people she can call friends. One of them is Hermes (the Greek God) who wants justice to be served, since Medusa was being punished for something she had no control over. The curse is finally lifted, but Hermes must now protect her from two Gods, how are both after her...

Take Two by Laurelin Paige

Rating: 4/5 stars
Publication Date: February 4 2014

Blurb:

He’s ready for his close up, but she’s the one calling the shots.

On the night of her graduation from film school, straight-laced Maddie Bauers fell completely out of character for an oh-my-god make-out session with a perfect stranger. Complete with the big O.

Seven years later, that romantic interlude is still fresh in her mind. That stranger is now a rich and famous actor. And she’s one very distracted camera assistant working on his latest production. She might consider another tryst…if he even remembers her.

Micah Preston does indeed remember Maddie. Too bad he’s sworn off Hollywood relationships. He allows himself as much sex as he likes—and oh, he does like—but anything more is asking for trouble. For the woman, not for him. Yet knowing Maddie could want more than a movie-set fling doesn’t stop him from pursuing her like a moth drawn to hot stage lights.

But as the shoot nears its end, it’s decision time. Is it time to call, “Cut!” on their affair, or is there enough material for a sequel?

Warning: Contains a dreamy movie star hero, a focus-pulling heroine, off-the-charts instant chemistry, steamy sex in near-public locations, and a new use for lip gloss.

Review:

Usually I hate the cold and hot showers between the characters Micha and Mandy were coming close and then they were pulling apart for most of the book. Now add Micha's reluctance to enter a relationship and you get what the book is about.

I found it quite enjoyable and a good read. It wasn't mind blowing, but I got my fill at romance and angst (though it wasn't much). What was the most memorable about the book is an Micha's stubbornness to acknowledge and accept his feelings for Mandy.

An epilogue would have been a great idea because I didn't felt as if the story was complete. I wanted to see how Mandy and Micha were doing with their relationship and how they balanced the work - relationship thing. I want a book for Christian, Micha`s bodyguard who seemed like a great character.

Review:

Office romance, with lots of trouble going on, history between the characters and a company that needs to be saved are some things that summarizes the book. It's easy to read, but it didn't have much appeal to me. I had forgotten the blurb and I thought that the book was Becca and Michael's story and not his and Elise's so I couldn't say that I wanted them together. Besides that, they didn't click for me and I couldn't feel the chemistry between them. The book wasn't bad, For me, it's somewhere between medium and good

Excerpt

“I should have looked for you.” He wrapped his arms around her and groaned aloud at the warmth and softness of her skin against his. The rough texture of her nipples against his chest, the dampness of her hair on his shoulder. “Just touching you makes me crazy. My God, Elise. I should have known. Fuck, I did know, and I ignored it. I’m so goddamned stupid.”

“You’re not stupid.”

“I am stupid.” Michael gripped her hips—fucking luscious, curvy hips—and ran his hands up that amazing hourglass arc in her waist and over her shoulders, reveling in the magic of Elise’s hands giving him the same treatment. “I’m stupid because I thought I could push you away all those years ago and I’d forget and find someone else who turned me on as much as your hand bumping my knee under a cubicle desk. Christ, I tried to tell myself it was all innocent, but I lived for every second.”

“Oh my God.” Elise’s eyes flew wide, her cheeks flushed in the low light of her bedroom. “I had no idea.”

“You must have, if you gathered up the nerve to kiss me.” He bent her back, one hand braced between her shoulders, the other gripping her ass, trailing kisses along her jaw. Their only-for-tonight agreement be damned, already he didn’t want to let her go.

“I hoped.” She gripped his shoulders, smiling. “If I’m being honest, all that accidentally bumping your knee wasn't so much an accident.”

Savor (Billionaire Bachelors Club, #3) by Monica Murphy

Rating: 3/5 stars
Publication date: January 21 2014

Blurb:

New York Times bestselling author Monica Murphy concludes her sexy Billionaire Bachelors Club series with a fiery romance that refuses to be left at the office…

Bryn James can’t take much more. Smart, sexy Matthew DeLuca is everything she wants in a man, but he’s also her boss—the youngest, hottest vineyard owner in the Napa Valley—and he doesn’t see her as anything more than his shy assistant. That’s all about to change. Armed with a hot new look and an attitude to match, Bryn is determined to catch Matt’s eye… professionalism be damned.
With his winery’s grand reopening approaching, Matt is trying to stay focused, but Bryn is suddenly making it very difficult. He’s always thought her prim demeanor effortlessly sexy, but Matt can’t deny that her transformation is jaw-dropping …and going to make it very difficult to keep his hands to himself.

But when one thing leads to another and suddenly Matt is stripping Bryn bare, he’ll be faced with the biggest risk of his career—and his heart. Can he convince her—and himself—that this might just be more than a no-strings office affair?

Review:

Matt and Bryn's story was good, but not great. It felt sometimes a little rushed and some other a little slow. I wanted to see more possessiveness from Matts part.

Bryn wans torn between her attraction to Matt and the fact that was is her boss. I wouldn't have minded that if it wasn't for her jumping from one decision to the other. One minute she was after Matt and the next she is pushing him away saying that he is her boss and they can't do anything.

The book is short which means that it doesnt take much time to read it and it wasnt unpleasant or bad so I am leaning towards the " you should read it" suggestion.

All the Pretty Poses (Pretty #2) by M. Leighton

Rating: 3.5 stars
Publication Date: January 26 2014

Blurb:

Strength…
It took Kennedy Moore years to put her life back together after Reese Spencer shattered it.  But she did.  Now, years later, strong and independent, she is in pursuit of a single dream—to dance with the Altman American Dance Theater.  Unfortunately, Kennedy is learning that a girl from nowhere with no money and no contacts might never be able to reach her goal.
That is, until Reese reappears, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that Kennedy just can’t refuse.  In exchange for working on his yacht for a few short weeks, he’ll get her an audition with the famous dance troupe.  All Kennedy has to do is keep her head down, work hard and resist Reese.  That sounds easy enough, right?
Weakness…
Reese doesn’t want to make it easy for Kennedy.  Seeing her again has started a fire in his blood—an unwelcome one.  It took him years to forget about her before, so this time he has a plan.  It’s simple:  Get Kennedy on his yacht, seduce her, get her out of his system, move on with his life.  That sounds easy enough, right?
But the one thing Reese didn’t plan for was Kennedy herself—a girl so strong yet so broken, she makes him want to rescue her, to take care of her.  To save her.  Even if he has to save her from himself.
Review:

The book was not very enjoyable. It didn't work for me as I expected it to. Kennedy was good, but Resee wasn't the man for me. Something about him kept me from liking him much. He was acting so passively to Kennedy, but the secrets he kept and the life forced her to weren't my cup of tea. The only part I can say that I can say that I truly enjoyed was the end. Not because it ended, but because Ross became the man Kennedy seemed to know and love. Something I thought it had happened was confirmed, but with a sad end.
