Review:
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Reading the scenes where Will was trying to push Ruby away so she wouldn't get attached to him was heartbreaking. They killed me and I only wanted to pick Ruby up and comfort her. She was precious and I loved her. She and Will have a strong bond despite his efforts to make her stay on schedule and learn to be on her own. I was glad that Delilah was there pushing him towards the right direction. The three of them make a great family in my mind. Which is the opposite of what I felt when it came to Delilah's. I hated all of them and all of them are close to being un-redeemable in my eyes. You don't treat your family like that. Will's was much better with the exception of his mother. She can never be in the picture again and you won't hear me complaining.
The story was good. I liked the main characters and my favorite was Ruby. She stole my heart and was on my main focus while I was reading the book. For me, she stole the show and some of the spotlight from Delilah and Will. They are bonding over her and Delilah's cooking so I can't complain about that. We had 3 different people living in a house together and slowly but steadily becoming a family. Will is not heartless. He has a heart but he's closed off because his mother treated him horribly when he was a kid and know he is trying to keep everyone at arm's length. I won't even try to pretend to know what was going on with his profession and all the rules. Delilah's was much easier to understand and my heart went to her when her family treated her awfully. Both have family troubles, but they managed to work things out in the end.
The pace of the book was good and the main characters easy to understand and like. Will's brothers are interesting and I look forward to the next book. For now, I will just recommend this one.
