Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Wanna know what bugs me the most? The separation time. Unless I missed something, our "happy" couple spend more time apart rather than together in this book. What I mean is that they were broken up for a longer time than the one they were dating and we didn't even get the "both were celibate during separation" line after they got together and it's driving me crazy.

I liked that for once we had the hero pursuing the heroine for something more than a one night stand and the heroine being the reluctant party. Logan is one of the good guys and I really liked him. I couldn't understand Ari though and I wasn't a big fan of hers. The book is short so there is no character development and things are moving on a rather fast pace. I would recommend Offsides because it was a fast book to read and there wasn't something I truly hated other than the breakup part.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Baking with a rockstar was one of the best books I read this month. It was a light and easy read. There was some drama, but it was quickly resolved and nothing over the top which was surprising considering that the author chose to throw into the story some plotlines that could do serious damage to Hudson and Charlie's relationship. I wanted something that wasn't hard to read and this book was perfect after a stressful week. I liked the main characters and Hudson's family. I also liked how Charlie and Hudson's relationship progressed and how much Hudson loved baby Mira. They had a lovely bond and their relationship was the highlight of the book.

This is book one in a brand new series and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books. You should know that Baking with a rockstar is one the very sweet side of romance, so if you are not looking for that, I don't think that you will like the book. The angst is next to zero if not zero.

Excerpt

The smart and rational side of my brain seems to be on a break because all I’m capable of doing is raking my eyes over Mr. Basketball Shorts. He’s tall with broad shoulders and the most pronounced abs I’ve ever seen up close. The baseball cap on his head is turned backward, and he’s currently wiping his face off with what I assume to be his shirt. That is the only reason he hasn’t seen me yet, and why I haven’t seen his face yet either. But I’m going out on a limb here and say it’s probably as gorgeous as the rest of him.

My eyes drift back to his drool-worthy chest, following the beads of sweat that are slowly running down his torso to the V-shaped lower abs until they disappear into the pair of shorts that sits low on his hips.

Sudden heat shoots through my body, making my cheeks tingle from the force of it. My brain uses that moment of distraction to finally kick back in again, reminding me of the situation at hand.

A total stranger is standing in my kitchen.

Half-naked.

And we’re all alone in this house.

Review:

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

The book was good, but not good enough. It had a good pace, but it had too many plotlines that were dragging it into different directions and didn't leave any room for one of them to blossom. Becca and Bronson's arranged marriage wasn't a source of angst or romance. From start 'till the end, I got the same feeling from these two. The kids that enter Bronson's life also don't get enough spotlight so we didn't get to see the four of them becoming a family. I could say that I feel like the author tried to write a great book, but wasn't able to achieve it. Too many things were thrown together in a small room and it didn't work. The book wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. It leans towards the good side though. The author is new to me, so maybe I am not adjusted to her writing. I will give one of her other books a try and judge then.

Review:

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

I am starting to feel like the quality of the series is dropping. I remember myself loving the first 10 books or so, but books 11 and 12 were not so good in my opinion. Felix and Sarah were lacking passion and their relationship seemed more like one two siblings have rather than the one two lovers have. Another thing that bothered me is that I didn't feel like the characters were living in the 1800s. Some might consider it a spoiler but I have to say it. Sarah kissed 5 men in one night. Not one or two, but 5. And one of Felix's previous lady friends felt free to mention what a great time they had when he had company with him. Do we really need these tropes in HR novels too? Especially when the characters need time to develop and spend it thinking about what choices they have in the future. Sarah and Felix's relationship seemed rushed and underdeveloped to me. There were some moments when elements that made me love Darcy Burke's came up in the story and that's the reason I am not giving a lower rating to the book. This is the first book written by Darcy Burke that missed the mark for me.

Excerpt:
“It’s time for you to marry,” Father said, surprising no one. Or so Sarah assumed. Anthony knew how desperately they wanted her to marry, and she had to think Felix did too. Of course he did. Sarah was the first person to complain about the pressure they applied.
“Past time, one might say,” Sarah murmured and tried not to send an exasperated look toward her mother.
“There’s no need to be saucy,” Mother said tartly.
“Why must Felix and I be privy to Sarah’s humiliation?” Anthony asked.
Humiliation? Sarah had been annoyed, mildly embarrassed even, but not humiliated. At least not until now. She tossed a withering stare at her brother. He had the grace to wince and look away.
“There is a reason,” Mother said before inclining her head toward Sarah’s father.
Father coughed. “Er, yes. We wondered if it might make sense for you, Felix, to wed Sarah.”
Humiliation didn’t begin to describe the emotion swirling inside Sarah and erupting in her cheeks. Surely they were about to catch fire.
She would have snapped at her father or mother or both, but words simply wouldn’t come.
Anthony stood. “You can’t ambush Felix like that!” At Sarah’s intake of breath, he added, “Or Sarah.”
Sarah didn’t bother sending him another acid glare.
Their mother pursed her lips at Anthony. “We’re not ambushing him. Felix is like family. He’s well aware of Sarah’s sad state.”
Oh, this was just getting better and better. Now she was in a sad state?
“Furthermore, Felix is in need of a wife. Your father and I discussed it, and we think this is an excellent match.”
Sarah couldn’t bear to meet Felix’s gaze, so she stared at the floor. Had the patterned carpet always had that odd mushroom shape next to the leg of the settee?
“I’m glad you discussed it,” Anthony said with a great deal of sarcasm. “You might have discussed it with Felix, however.” He looked toward Felix. “Did they?”
Now Sarah chanced a look at him. Felix shook his head. To his credit, he didn’t look surprised or annoyed or pale or anything other than what he’d appeared since she’d arrived: uncomfortable.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

I am so tired of reading the same thing over and over again. The hero has slept with half of the female population while the heroine's number of partners could be counted on one hand and she had been celibate for two years. Oh, she had given some BJ's in the college, but who cares about that? One of Ash's conquests though is very present in this book (from start 'till finish) and I kinda liked her. I felt like the first 20% was too focused on Ash's sexual history and I wouldn't have just taken his word about been clean, to be honest. The final nail to the coffin came when Ash said that he started sleeping around because he was hurt and he needed to get over a woman. I mean really? Just say that you want to stick it to someone. It sounds way better. I couldn't get past all that, so I was reading the book like a magazine and didn't connect with it. It also bugs me that we didn't found in this book if the movie would go for an Oscar which was something that I needed to know since I read book 1. Role play and callback are two completely stand-alone books and there is a third one coming. I really hope that the focus will be on the couple in the upcoming book because in this one I felt like other elements drew the attention to different things. Both Ash and Lucy, are keeping secrets and I wished one of them had said something a little bit earlier, but the book needed some drama I guess. I wasn't a big fan of Ash and I kept wishing that Lucy would find someone better who appreciated her. There is a very shady BDSM scene which was cringy at best and it made me wonder what kind of a dom Ash is. Whatever little liking I had so far for him was lost after that scene.

Excerpt
Excerpt of their meet cute:
I turned to leave, nearly plowing into a girl walking up behind me. Stacks of male blazers were draped across her arms so that just a cute button nose and black rectangular glasses framing large, brown eyes peeked out from behind.
“Oh! I'm so sorry.” She tried to step out of my way, but in doing so, one of her ballet flats flipped off her foot causing her to fall backwards. I caught her just in time around her petite waist, her cotton T-shirt inching its way up to her rib cage. My hand was flat against the soft skin of her abs.
"Lucy!" Kelly hissed. "You are holding thousands of dollars worth of garments. If you ruin those, it would take you months to reimburse the loss."
"It was my fault Kelly," I said. "I wasn't looking where I was going." I stole another glance at the girl—at Lucy—and was awarded with a shy smile in return. That little quirk of her plump, peony-colored lips, and she shifted the blazers to one arm, adjusting her glasses in a way that was so fucking cute and unassuming. It only took a moment for recognition to snake across her features.
“Mr. Livingston,” she gasped, that smile quivering at the corners. “I’m so sorry—” Her voice was now hoarse, and those sweet lips parted as a sharp inhale caught in her throat.
Energy swirled between us; something calm and potent. That moment, looking into Lucy’s eyes was a breath of stillness on an otherwise chaotic, crazy set. I wanted to breathe her in, absorb that calm energy she exuded; swallow her shy, quiet demeanor and bathe in it all day long.
She’s cute. It was my late wife, Brie’s voice again. Brie would have liked her. That warm feeling surged down to my heart, needling me in a way I both loved and hated.
Her brows tugged together as I felt my breath catch in my throat. It only lasted a second—our connection. But it was consuming. I cleared my throat, stepping back from Lucy. She didn’t look like she belonged in this business based on what little I’d seen of her shy personality. Her chin dipped lower, and she cast her eyes to the ground.
I studied her subtle movement. To most people, it would be nothing. But to me? I saw her raw, untapped need—the quick-to-please nature; her innate receptiveness to the hierarchy of Dominant-submissive relationships. Like she could sense I was in charge and not only acknowledged it, but accepted it with that small dip of her head.
My cock twitched against the zipper of my flat front dress pants.
That in itself was nothing new. But the tug at my gut; the tightness, and the moment of tenderness I felt for a brief second. That was new. And terrifying. Fuck me. I had to get out of there—and fast. “It was my fault, Lucy.”
Behind me, Kelly scoffed. “You remember her name, I see.”
I swallowed a sigh. “I’ll see you both on set.”
Lucy peeked up over the top rim of her glasses. Those eyes—endless, dark orbs that were wide and wet—latched onto mine, and her pink tongue swiped across her full top lip.
I have to have her. The thought came before I had the good sense to stop it. Dammit. I didn’t discern between women. I loved them all—all shapes, sizes, hair color. But at LnS? I didn’t find many women like Lucy. Even with my seasoned subs, they had their ways of seeking me out. Subtle usually… not like Kelly or most other aggressive women I met at the average bar. But there was something different about Lucy. I tore my eyes away from her and walked briskly out of the room. As I turned the corner down the hallway, I heaved a deep breath, falling back against the wall. The cool, painted walls were chilly against the backs of my sweaty shoulders, and I brushed my fingers over the metal band, closing my eyes and trying to picture Brie's face.
But for the first time in five years, Brie's eyes weren't what I saw in my mind.

Review for Callback, book 1 in the series

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

The best thing about this story was the epilogue. It was sweet and a solid end to the character's story. The rest of the story takes place in a span of a week maybe a week and a half which was very annoying to me. In some other romances I can believe that the main characters fell for each other in a short time, but in this novel I just couldn't. I was expecting to see these two film the movie and not spend the whole book preparing Marley for the audition. I want to see what happened with the movie (did any of them get a nomination for an Oscar?) in the next book. If we don't find out, I will remove a star from this review and possibly from the next book too since half the story was about the bloody movie.

I couldn't understand Marley. She was confusing sometimes and she wasn't as strong as she thought she was. Jude is far from perfect too. Both of them are not perfect and maybe that's why they suit each other. I would recommend the book, but with half a heart.

Meet the Author
I love coffee.
As an author and a story-teller, it is the lifeblood to which my ideas take flight. And I believe in giving credit where credit is due. Occasionally someone (ie – my husband) will try to secretly switch out my beloved regular coffee for decaf. I always know the difference. ALWAYS (I’m looking at you, SEAN).
I am incapable of achieving the perfect ponytail. I’m dyslexic. I can never wear white without spilling on myself. And I’ve never read Pride and Prejudice (gasp!).
When I was younger and stole my mother’s Harlequins to read beneath the covers with a flashlight (seriously, did we ALL do this? I think we did.), I wanted to read about the tough as nails heroine. The perfectly imperfect girl with quirks and attitude and sass. And the anti-heroes who were anything but “Prince Charming.” Forget the knight on a white horse… give me the bad boy on a motorcycle.
So, now, I write those romance novels I craved to see on the shelves all those years ago—the sassy heroines. The badass heroes. I spend my days in the throes of my imagination, and am loving every minute of it. I can travel anywhere and become anyone I want to be. One day, I’m a mechanic in Boston and the next, I’m a vampire stripping in Las Vegas.
Since penning my first novel back in 2012, I’m now an international author with 15 published books, in a wide range of contemporary romance genres–(Paranormal, New Adult, Small town, Erotic Suspense… you name it!).
After living for a decade in Brooklyn, NY, I took the plunge and moved to beautiful (although kinda chilly) Portland, Maine. I now live full time in ‘Vacationland’ with a kind of mean cat, a mellow chihuahua, and a very NOT mellow lab-pittie mix. Oh, yeah… there’s a husband who draws comics somewhere in that mix, too. 😉 I can usually be found in a coffee shop with my nose in my laptop wearing fabulous (albeit sometimes impractical) shoes.
I love connecting with readers and fellow sassy storytellers, so feel free to drop me an email at katana.collins@gmail.com or connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter(@katanacollins). You can find a list of my available books over on my Bookshelf or if you’ve already read a book, it would make my day if you wrote a review!

A dare turns into so much more…

All I want to do is get to work on time.
But a Prince Harry look-a-like is trying to steal my cab,
And I’ll fight for it to the bitter end.

In the midst of our verbal battle,
I discover I lost my wallet.

His lips are soft, and when he tugs me closer,
I press my entire body against his hard muscles, and practically strip him from his expensive suit.
This is the best taxi ride of my life.

But fate, that bitch,
Has us pounding on the same locked door.

That the only four-letter word he lives by is duty.
But this would-be-king is about to fall hard…for a commoner.

Rating:  4 out of 5 stars

Would Be King is a stand-alone novel by Kim Karr, but's connected to Washed up royal and you might want to check that out too. Both books have the same tone and this time I was used to some things that kinda bothered me when I was reading the other book. The only thing that did bother me in this book was Max's manwhoring. It's the 5th book in a row where the hero has slept with half of the world population and it's starting to get on my nerves. He had lipstick on his collar when he met Gigi for one and that wasn't a detail I needed. Other than that, I can't think of anything else that I didn't like. I did found the naming weird though. Gigi first and last name combo, for example, is very unusual. And after some search, I realized that I was reading it all wrong. Some of the names showed that the author was inspired from the media world and I am not saying that in a bad way. I actually liked it. The pace was good and despite Max's wild sowing, I liked him and Gigi. They had a good story and you should read it. The pace and the writing were good and I really enjoyed the book.

It's Getting Scot in Here is the first book in the Wild Wicked Highlanders #1 series by Suzanne Enoch. The story served as a good introduction for the main characters as well as the setting of the series and all the important characters. I have no idea how some of them will redeem themselves, but I am looking forward to finding that out.

The book is good for a semi-relaxing afternoon. To be honest, It's Getting Scot in Here is the kind of book I enjoy when I read it, but after a week I have almost completely forgotten what it was about. It's like a one book stand, which is not a bad thing, but it's also not great. At least I liked the book and I found it easy to read.

A man who considers her his equal—and won’t try to tame her wild heart...
IN THE HIGHLANDS
Rough, rugged Highlander Niall MacTaggert and his brothers know the rules: the eldest must marry or lose the ancestral estate, period. But Niall’s eldest brother just isn’t interested in the lady his mother selected. Is it because Amelia-Rose is just too. . . Free-spirited? Yes. Brazen? Aye. Surely Niall can find a way to soften up the whip-smart lass and make her the perfect match for his brother for the sake of the family.

JUST GOT A WHOLE LOT HOTTER.
Instead it’s Niall who tempts Amelia-Rose, despite her reservations about barbarian Highlanders. Niall finds the lass nigh irresistible as well, but he won’t make the mistake his father did in marrying an Englishwoman who doesn’t like the Highlands. Does he have what it takes to win her heart? There is only one way to find out...
