Blog tour: Appion (Jaylior 0.5) by Elodie Colt

Chris knew he was different. Just like Gina was. Except she was so much more…
He didn’t want to move to the Baltimore compound to start his training. He didn’t want to live with his kind. He didn’t need their help.
But he had no choice, not if he wanted to get his ability under control. He was a Fighter. His strength was growing every day, and if he didn’t learn to keep it in check, he could do some serious damage.
And Gina? She was a saint. An angel with the sweetest smile and the biggest heart. Whereas his power meant to destroy, hers was to revive. Whereas his hands were intended to inflict pain, hers were supposed to heal.
Chris thought he knew her race, knew what she was hiding behind these stunning pair of appion eyes. But he couldn’t have been more wrong…
This book is a spin-off prequel of the Paranormal Romance series JAYLIOR. It is set 7 years in the past and can be read as a standalone. Dive into this short story full of suspense, steamy romance, and sinfully hot Chris Howe who made it his mission to unravel Gina’s secret.  *Recommended age 18+. *Written in first person, dual POV.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars

When I signed up to review the book I was aware that it was a prequel to a series, but I thought it was going to be a story about a couple that was already established in the series or something would happen and it would set off the events of the first book. I haven't read the series and factoring in how much I was disappointed with this book, I don't think I ever will. The couple in this novella doesn't get a happy ending. They have sex and soon after she leaves to go to another country. That was it. Is this a clickbait in order to make me buy the next book? Because I won't. This novella only served to make me mad and put a huge question mark on the author's name giving her almost no second chance. This addition to the series felt useless to me, so I wouldn't recommend it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

The duke is indeed lying. About a lot and important things, but his lie about the most important thing is this book is revealed to the reader from the very first part that's told from his point of view. It bugs me that I cannot say anything because the blurb doesn't reveal the truth and neither can I.I was wondering how could the author explain Rufus's past behavior and make us fall for that man and came up with 100 different scenarios, but only one of them came close to the truth. Another thing is Verity and the "hard-working gentleman who just might be the perfect father her young son so desperately needs". There isn't one. I thought that Verity would have found someone, but as it turns out the thought of marrying Thomas only passed her mind once. I was glad that we didn't have a suitor fighting for Verity's heart because it would only have caused friction.

The book was good and the relationship between the two main characters was better. I liked the main and the secondary characters and Beau acted as a kid his age should act. He was still adorable and I understand why he wanted a baby goat. I want one too! Overall, the book was enjoyable and I had a good time reading it, so I would recommend it.

Excerpt:
The day was warm and bright, and she was looking forward to being outside. The door she’d come through suddenly burst open. Beau dashed out, his laughter immediately filling the courtyard.
He was quickly followed by Rufus, who chased him along the edge of the garden to the center path. Beau didn’t slow as he rounded the corner, and his feet slipped on the cobblestones. He fell down, landing on his side.
Verity dropped the blanket and ran toward him, but Rufus beat her by quite a bit. It was then that she realized he hadn’t been using his top speed to chase the boy. She’d seen that when he’d caught Racer that day at Mr. Maynard’s farm.
Rufus picked Beau up and set him on his feet and squatted down in front of him.“All right?”
Verity had expected Beau to cry, and his face had gone slightly pale. She lowered herself next to Rufus.“Did that scare you?” she asked, stroking Beau’s arm from shoulder to elbow and back again.
Beau nodded. Then a moment later, he ran to the top of the stairs leading to the courtyard.“Comeon, Papa, catch me!”
Rufus stood and offered his hand to Verity to help her rise. She wasn’t wearing gloves, and neither was he. It was the first time their flesh had touched, and it was like grabbing lightning. Or how she imagined it to be—electrifying and hot, and it left a lasting impression.
“Please don’t chase him down the stairs. He already fell once.” She turned to Beau and called,“Please be careful.”
“I am being careful, Mama. And don’t worry about the stairs. I ran down them to the kitchen passage and didn’t fall.”
She looked over at Rufus.“Isthat right?”
His gaze drifted to the side, and he hesitated a moment.“Er,yes. We were playing knights and villains.”
“Which one were you?”
“It was my turn to be the knight.”
Verity frowned and shifted a glance toward Beau.“Idon’t like thinking of my boy as a villain.”
“It’s pretend,” Rufus said.“But if it makes you feel better, he only chooses to be the villain because he likes to be chased.”
“Can’t the villain chase the knight?”
His mouth tipped into a crooked smile, and her stomach did a flip. It was as if lightning had struck again.“It’s pretend. We can do whatever we like.” He looked back toward the basket and the blanket on the ground.“I’ll get the things for the picnic.” He turned and started along the path.
“I can grab the blanket,” she offered.
He waved a hand.“I’ve got it.”
Verity went to Beau instead. She took his hand, and they descended into the courtyard, then veered right toward the gateway to the stable yard.“Perhaps I should play knights and villains.” She wondered why they hadn’t done that before and felt bad. It was a stark reminder of how much he’d missed not having a father.
“But you’re a girl.” Beau sounded scandalized.
Rufus met them as they approached the gate.“What’swrong with your mother being a girl?”
“She wants to play knights and villains.” He made a face that clearly showed what he thought of that idea.
Verity was caught between laughter and disappointment.
“It would be better if she joined us,” Rufus said, drawing Beau’s sharp attention.“A knight needs a fair maiden to rescue.”
“Then I am definitely going to be the villain. I don’t wanna rescue a girl.” He frowned, then sent his mother an apologetic glance.“ExceptI do want to save you, Mama.”
Verity surrendered to the laughter. “Thank you.”
“But Papa should be the one to save you. That’s what dukes do, right?”
“That’s what husbands do,” Rufus corrected,“whether they are a duke or not.”

I liked the book and I loved the last chapter and the epilogue. Both of them were very sweet and they almost made my teeth hurt. I wish we had seen this side of Crispin long before we reached that point, but I can understand why we didn't. He was so closed off because he was trying to protect Sybil and help restore the castle to its former glory. Jacinda is another story altogether. She is not a very good person and she admits that. Personally, I didn't think that was true because I liked her, but she may annoy a few of you. The romance between these two is not much mainly because Crispin is trying to keep Jacinda from finding out the truth and later because he needs an heiress. Still, the managed to work well together and I liked their story even if it lacked some romance.

Review:

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

I think this is the first mediocre book in the series for me. I have either hated or liked the other eight books that have been published so far. If you ask me the main characters lacked the chemistry that's usually there when it comes to any pairings Kenner makes. I usually hate the storyline, not the couple, but in this case, they didn't work for me. I bet Selma and Sean would have made a better couple. Easton wasn't a bad hero and I liked him until he messed things up. He didn't act like a book boyfriend would have, but I guess that adds to the angsty part of the story.

In this book, we didn't see many familiar faces which is weird considering how much we were seeing them in the previous novels. It has more the air of a stand-alone book than one of belonging in a series where each book features a different couple. The epilogue of the book was a great tease for what's to come and I am pretty sure the author won't disappoint us.

I feel like Easton was more invested in their romance and Selma was always looking at a future where he wasn't a part of it. Or I am just too no-Selma fan. I didn't like and I couldn't relate to her. She is basically the reason I didn't enjoy the book. I will not say if I recommend the book or not and I will remain as neutral as my rating.

Title: Part-Time Husband
Series: Trophy Husbands #1
Author: Noelle Adams
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: May 29, 2018

Blurb

On a Wednesday afternoon, I ask Trevor Bentley to marry me. He might be the most arrogant, obnoxious man I know, but I need him to be my husband for a year.

There are reasons.

He's not going to be a real husband. Just part-time. Yes, I have to live with him. And, okay, I also have to share his bed. And, sure, he's the sexiest and most exciting thing to ever happen to my controlled, organized life.

But still... It's only a part-time marriage. I'm not going to give him my heart. I know what I'm doing, and I'm too smart to fall for my husband.

I hope.

Trailer

Excerpt

I’m feeling warm and relaxed when I finally get out of the bathtub. I usually don’t walk around the apartment unless I’m covered up, but since Trevor isn’t here I just wrap a towel around me. My hair is piled up messily on my head, and I’m carrying my bath salts and soap.
I open the bathroom door and nearly run smack into Trevor.
I give a little squeal and immediately look to make sure my towel is in place. “I didn’t know you were home.”
“I just got back.”
“I was in the bath.”
“I know that.” He’s looking very sexy in that end-of-the-day way he has. Five-o’clock shadow. Slightly loosened tie and collar. Half-lowered eyelids.
God, the man is hot.
“I could smell you as soon as I walked in the door,” he adds, the slightly rough words doing nothing for my flustered state of mind.
“You smelled me?” I’m thinking all kinds of things at the moment, and none of them are suitable to share with the man in front of me.
He reaches over, and I swallow over a quick intake of breath. I think he’s going to touch me. I want him to touch me.
He touches my bath salts instead. “This stuff you put in your bath. I smelled it as soon as I walked in, so I knew you were in the bath.”
“Oh.”
It’s perfectly logical. And kind of a disappointment.
His hand moves from the bath salts, and his fingertips slowly trail up my towel to the bare skin at my collarbone. It’s barely a touch, but it makes my skin flush and a pulsing begin between my legs.
“What did you think?” he asks, his voice a little thicker than normal.
“What did I think about what?” I have no idea what he’s talking about. My brain isn’t exactly functioning at the moment.
“What did you think I smelled?”
“I… I didn’t know.”
“I see.”
It feels like he sees.
It feels like he sees all of me.
I’m staring at his plum-colored tie because it’s safer than meeting his eyes right now. I don’t want him to know how I’m feeling, how his touch, his presence is affecting me.
“Melissa?”
“What?”
“Are you planning to move out of the doorway? I need to use the bathroom.”
And that’s like a load of bricks on my breathlessness. I’m able to meet his gaze now with a cool expression as I step out of the doorway.
I’m on my way out of the room when he says, “We can return to this particular conversation a little later in bed if you want.”
Damn it.
The asshole knows exactly what I was feeling just now.
Fortunately I’m not feeling it anymore.
“I don’t think so.”
“You sure?”
I turn my head and see him smirking at me, as if he thinks he’s already won.
He hasn’t won.
“Yes, I’m sure. The problem is that any kind of conversation with you involves your infuriating personality, and that just doesn’t work for me.”
“I think it does.”
“You think wrong. And I thought you had to go to the bathroom.”
“I do. We’ll resume this conversation at a later date.”

Excerpt:
In the dark, during the fundraising video, she leaned into me, taking my hand. “What’s going on?” “Nothing.” “Caden.” My name was more than a statement. It was a comment on how well she knew the animal, and how well she loved it. If eyes could listen, hers did, gazing at me in the darkness. I couldn’t lie to her for much longer. The entire invite list was watching the video. The bar was empty. The hallway lights were dimmed. The kitchen staff moved constantly and quietly to set up the buffet. I laced my fingers in hers. She had a gold band we’d gotten out of expediency. No big sparkling rock. No sign I’d ever courted her properly before marrying her. My father always said a man didn’t skip steps if he wanted to do something once. I slid my cheek to hers and whispered in her ear, “I want to destroy you.” Her hand tightened in mine so tightly I could feel our bones. Her glands must have fired, because the apples and the perfume melded and became something so uniquely her my balls ached—but not for simple release. For something more. An agreement of ownership. Waiting wasn’t an option. Pulling her by the hand, I headed for the hallway. “Caden,” she said when we were away from the event, “slow down.” I didn’t. I couldn’t. I pulled her down the carpeted steps to the lower level, stepping over a velvet rope at the bottom. The lights were out in the hall. Three doors led to three empty event rooms. “What’s with you lately?” she asked. “Are you saying no?” “I’m asking a question.” I backed into one of the rooms and pulled her in. It was dark but for light coming from under the doorways on each side. I walked in deeper, eyes adjusting quickly enough to avoid the tables and stacks of chairs on wheeled dollies. “So am I.” I faced her. “Are you saying no?” “What are you hoping I’ll say yes to?” “I’m going to pull that dress up until I can get to these hard nipples.” I pinched them through the dress and she gasped. “Then I’ll bend you over one of these tables and fuck you so hard walking’s going to hurt. Are you saying no?” “I’m not. But I want to know what’s going on with you.” “Pull your dress up before I shred it.”
