Review: Thrust Under by Michelle A. Valentine and Emily Snow

Thrust Under Release Graphic

We're excited to help Michelle A. Valentine and Emily Snow celebrate the release of Thrust Under. Thrust Under is an erotic read from two well established New York Times and USA Today Bestselling authors!

thrust cover

About Thrust Under Gabriel Carter is the biggest, cockiest asshole I’ve ever met. He’s six-foot-three inches of ex-baseball player—sexy muscles and smoldering looks that turn my body into a traitorous mess. Did I mention he’s also the reason business at my family’s hotel is quickly going down the drain? I shouldn’t want him, but try explaining that to my body. Especially after he proposes a business deal to me that will be mutually rewarding—both financially and sexually. Sleep with the enemy? Nah, I’ll just marry the bastard instead.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Michelle A. Valentine and Emily Snow must work together again because this book was amazing! The authors did a great job when they wrote Thrust under. I wouldn't be able to tell which author wrote whose point of view if it weren't for a mention of Black Falcon. Each author has a unique writing style, but they were blended together in a good way and there were no bumps in the road. Gabe had some moments where he made me chuckle and Maggie might not have been perfect, but she was good. Overall, I am happy with the way both of them acted even if Gabe's irrational behavior, in the end, made me feel a little off. Where was the man who told some dudes to stop staring at this future wife (and note that the said wife didn't know a thing about that proposal)? I wanted him to go for what was his. In my opinion, Gabe's character got worse (not much though, no worries) and Maggie's got better. I liked her.

I was a little worried about the business Maggie's parents owned because Gabe and his resort were a threat to them, but the authors worked everything out and the result was something that made me happy. I was very satisfied with the book and I hope that soon we will have a second one coming. Maggie's friend needs her own book. Can we please have it?

Promo: Hello Stranger (The Ravenels #4) by Lisa Kleypas

ABOUT HELLO STRANGER
New York Times bestselling author Lisa Kleypas delivers a scintillating tale of an unconventional beauty who finds passion with the spy who can’t resist her

A woman who defies her time
Dr. Garrett Gibson, the only female physician in England, is as daring and independent as any man—why not take her pleasures like one? Yet she has never been tempted to embark on an affair, until now. Ethan Ransom, a former detective for Scotland Yard, is as gallant as he is secretive, a rumored assassin whose true loyalties are a mystery. For one exhilarating night, they give in to their potent attraction before becoming strangers again.

A man who breaks every rule
As a Ravenel by-blow spurned by his father, Ethan has little interest in polite society, yet he is captivated by the bold and beautiful Garrett. Despite their vow to resist each other after that sublime night, she is soon drawn into his most dangerous assignment yet. When the mission goes wrong, it will take all of Garrett’s skill and courage to save him. As they face the menace of a treacherous government plot, Ethan is willing to take any risk for the love of the most extraordinary woman he’s ever known.

Excerpt:

He heard her muffled chuckle. She continued to lean against him while the trio of constables expressed sympathy for the unfortunate patient. Eventually the men departed with a chorus of hearty farewells. Ethan discovered that his other arm had stolen around Garrett. Making himself let go of her was like trying to uncoil a steel spring.
“You should go up to your father now,” he said with difficulty.
“Eliza will look after him while I take a few minutes to show you some slides. I have insect wings . . . pollen grains . . . flower petals . . . What would you like to see?”
“The inside of a hansom cab,” he said softly. “I can’t be alone with you, darlin’.”
Garrett touched the edges of his vest, fingers clamping on the thin leather. “Ethan.” A blush rose in her face, like light glowing through pink frosted glass. “I don’t want to end this. We . . . we could meet in secret, now and then. No one would have to know. We would make no claims on each other. We’ll just . . . do as we please.”
The way she fumbled with the words, so unlike her usual precise way of speaking, devastated Ethan. He could only guess what it cost her to lay open her pride like this. He wasn’t certain what she was offering, or even if she knew. Not that it mattered. He wanted, craved, needed anything she was willing to give. But he had to make her understand that it was impossible. And even if it were, the idea was beneath her.
“Have you had that kind of arrangement with a man before?” he brought himself to ask.
Her eyes were the green of deep summer and lush growing things. “I’m a woman who makes her own decisions and handles the consequences.”
“That means no,” Ethan said softly. At her silence, he continued, “You’d be risking your reputation. Your career.”
“Believe me, I understand that better than you.”
“Have you ever shared a bed with a man? Even once?”
“Why is that relevant?”
Her evasive response sent a pleasure-pang down to the pit of his stomach. “That means no,” he said again, his voice even softer than before. He took a slow breath, trying to steady himself, while his blood sang with the knowledge that she’d been waiting for him. She was meant to be his. God, he wanted her beyond any reckoning of earth or heaven. But her well-being mattered a thousand times more than his own desires.
“Garrett . . . I’m a man full o’ trouble. When I vowed to let nothing harm you, I included myself on that list.”
A frown crimped her forehead. She closed her grip on his vest until her fists were tight as pine knots. “I’m not afraid of you, or your trouble.” Her green eyes were narrowed and intent as she tugged him closer. “Kiss me,” she urged in a whisper.
“I have to go,” he said shortly, and pulled back while he was still able.
But Garrett moved with him, her hands reaching up to grip his head on either side, the way he’d taught her at Baujart’s. The strength of her fingers electrified him.
“Kiss me,” she commanded, “or I’ll break your nose.”
The threat startled a ragged laugh from him. He shook his head as he looked at her, this fearsomely capable woman who loved geese and was afraid of spaghetti, and could either wield a scalpel in a complex surgical procedure or use it as a throwing-knife.
There had always been a cold streak in him, but he couldn’t seem to find it now, when he needed it most. He was breaking apart inside. He would never be the same after this.
“Christ, you’ve ruined me,” he whispered.
His arms went around her, one hand gripping the heavy silken mass of her braided chignon. She guided his head down, and he lost the battle, all his will vanquished as he began to kiss her as if the world were about to end.
For him, it was.

Review:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

First of all, I would like to say how much more I enjoyed Claiming Felicity than Claiming Bailey. We didn't have any ungrateful people in this book and I liked that. The story was also able to hold my interest and I liked the characters (both secondary and main). It made me wonder how Ryder was able to see through Felicity's facade so fast while the people who were her friends didn't suspect a thing. Felicity is a good heroine. She has managed to hide from the evil person who is chasing her for a long time and when he finds her in the town she lives she does everything she can to make sure that none of her friends will be in danger. Ryder's job is to keep her safe and find the bad guy before he finds them. The insta-love between the two characters helped Ryder's case because he is not willing to lose the woman he loves. I would have liked to see Ryder spend more time with his half brothers and see them bonding, but the book is focused on Ryder and Felicity. In this novel, we were introduced to the Mountain Mercenaries who are Ryder's friends. I liked them and I want to read the series where they are going to be the main characters. They were very interesting. I would recommend this book and I would also recommend to check out the Mountain Mercenaries series when the first book is out.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Nolan is a good character. He is unashamed of what he does for a living and his is enjoying life. One night at a bar he meets Shelby and their chemistry is explosive. They end up in bed and things couldn't go further than that because Shelby has a boyfriend who is perfect for her life. He checks all her boxes for the perfect husband, so he must stay in the picture. They are not exclusive though since they didn't have the talk and what Shelby did with Nolan is justified. Not. I wasn't happy with her or her choice to keep having a thing with her boyfriend after she met Nolan. I am not happy with her and this book made me think that the series is not for me. I like the idea of the Man of the month contest, but the characters are deeply flawed and there is always one main character who is annoying me in each book. I must admit that I am excited about the next book though even if it is a second chance romance. That epilogue was the best part of the book. I want to see how they will get together and how everything is going to work out. One thing I would like not to see in one of the future books is something that has happened in each book so far. During the contest, one of the main characters will use it as an opportunity to declare his/her feelings for the other main character. For once I would like to just see the hero winning the contest while having the girl without much fanfare and declarations of love. I don't know if I misunderstood Shelby, but I didn't like her.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I cannot believe this is the last book in the Masters and Mercenaries series. Thankfully we have the spinoff which is about the lost boys and it makes me feel better because I am not done with the series and this universe. I love them all so much and I am happy that we will get more novels and novellas. The series might have ended, but there is still too much going on, so while a door just close we still have 10 of them that are still open. Unfinished business to speak plainly. Also, I wanna read Jared's book. He and Sarah should be together. He seemed so devoted to her and my heart was aching for him. He must get a book which preferably will be released in 2018.

Before I say anything else, I have to say that the book had too many names that started with J. I am really bad at remembering people and their names even in real life and all the Js started confusing me at some point around 4 am when I was still reading the book. I couldn't put it down because everything seemed slow and easy breezy in the first three-quarters of the book, but in the last one things got explosive, people got shot and the adrenaline kicked in. It was everything I ever wanted. I kept turning the pages because I had to read what was going to happen next, if all the people I loved would make it out alive in the end and if everything was going to be all right. I won't say more since I want to give you a chance to enjoy this book without having been spoiled and I don't think I can continue writing without giving away something.

Kay is a kick arse heroine. We all know her and love her already so I am not going to say much about her. Her dads were fun. I liked how she handled her personal and professional life. She did what she wanted without being forced into anything and she got after what she wanted. She tried to be as honest as possible and risked everything. Josh, on the other hand, was giving me a whiplash with all the sudden changes of emotion. One minute he is all about how Kay is moving on without him and his fine about it and the next he is thinking how HIS Kay would never do that. Dude, decide if you want the woman or not. He was so perfectly broken at first, but once he found out a few things he got very mad and I started liking him a little bit less. In the end, he fixed things, but for a short time he was on my "I don't like him much list".

Do I need to say if I would recommend the book? No. You already know the answer to that. I will say though that Ian and two more people (see, still not spoiling everything) make an appearance and I loved it! It was very funny and it reminded me that I should read Ian's book.

“Kayla?” Her eyes came up, a flash of recognition there. “Yes?” “Are you going to sign the contract or do you have more questions?” She picked up the pen sitting on top of the contracts that would bind the two of them together for the next six months. They would reevaluate the relationship at that point in time, but for the next six months, she was his. His bodyguard. His submissive. Bought and properly paid for. He would take care of her and she would give him what he needed. She signed with a flourish and sat back, a gleam of curiosity in her eyes. He was curious, too, and there was zero reason to not satisfy their curiosity. Hard and soft limits had been gone over. They would find their communication style as they went along. But first she should understand that he was in control. “Come sit on my lap.” She didn’t hesitate. She stood and turned, shifting so she could maneuver her way onto his lap. Her weight came down on him and he wrapped an arm around her waist. Damn but she made him feel big. He’d seen her take out a man twice her size, but sitting here in his lap she felt small and vulnerable, and fuck but that did it for him. He slid a hand along her knee, letting himself indulge in the silky-smooth feel of her skin against his palm. “Did you do as I asked?” He was well aware his voice had gone husky, deeper than normal. “Yes, Joshua.” She squirmed the tiniest bit, as though trying to find a comfortable position. It might be difficult for her because she was sitting right on his cock, and it was harder and thicker than he could ever remember it being. “How can I trust you?” This was all part of the game he loved. Here he could let go and play out the darker of his impulses—to control, to take, to possess. See. Want. Have. “You’ll have to check,” she replied. “Though shouldn’t we go inside?” He reached out and picked up his cell with his free hand, pushing one number and connecting to the security room. He put them on speaker. She needed to understand what she was up against in order for the game to be fair. “Landon?” “This is Burke,” the deep voice replied. “Shane’s on patrol. What can I do for you?” “Burke, I would like to fuck my submissive on the third-floor balcony. Is anyone watching us? Can you see any cameras pointed our way?” A low, masculine chuckle came across the line. “No, Mr. Hunt. And given the angle relative to the beach, you should enjoy your evening without worry. The only peepers I would worry about would be your next-door neighbor, and Jared is out for the night.” “I wouldn’t care if he wasn’t. Keep up the good work.” He hung up and his hand tightened. “I would prefer when we’re playing that you don’t question me like that. I know where I want to fuck you. I know when I want to fuck you, and I’m in charge. If I want you in the middle of a crowded freeway, your only response is a yes or a no. Not to question me.” She seemed to relax back against him, as though she was giving up the struggle and choosing to submit. “Yes, Joshua. Yes, I understand, and yes to the sex. Please.” He liked the breathy please and loved how she squirmed. Still, he wasn’t absolutely sure she’d obeyed him, and he was a man who required proof. He slid his hand up her thigh. “Spread your legs for me.” Her knees fell apart, and he could feel the heat from her core. He slipped a hand up until he made contact with her softest skin. No panties. Nothing but wet heat waiting for him, and it was obvious the play had cranked her up, too. His free hand eased one button on her shirt free, and then another and another until he could move in like a soldier conquering territory. No bra. Her breasts were like the rest of her. Soft and delicate. One nipple rolled against his palm, hardening then and there. “I can see you’ve been an obedient sub,” he said, his mouth against her ear. “You need to stay that way or there will be punishment. I’m not a sadist, Kayla. I truly don’t get off on your pain, but I will give it to you if you need it. I am a disciplinarian. I gain satisfaction from your obedience. In exchange, I’ll show you how good it can be to obey me.”

NY Times and USA Today bestselling author Lexi Blake lives in North Texas with her husband, three kids, and the laziest rescue dog in the world. She began writing at a young age, concentrating on plays and journalism. It wasn’t until she started writing romance and urban fantasy that she found the stories of her heart. She likes to find humor in the strangest places and believes in happy endings no matter how odd the couple, threesome, or foursome may seem.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

If you are reading this book I will assume that you won't mind spoilers from the previous book.

I needed an epilogue. I needed something to show me that even ten years later everything was all right with all the people I loved. The book ended on a light note though and I found it sweet. I am going to miss these characters. It's been 6 years since I picked the first book and loved it. All the books got 5 stars from me.

My heart was hurting for poor Julian whose only goal was to get his girl back. Arianna has no memory of her love for Julian and her strong friendship with Nika. So, Julian with the unrequited help of his friend tries to get the girl and the happily ever after. I have to say that Julian's friend might have started as the stoner friend who wasn't very likable (to me at least), but in this book, I appreciated him and he got on my good side. Could we have a novella about him? One where we can also see some of the people we already know?

Nika and Hunter have also problems, but they are in a better place since they are still together! Their problem is the bond they share which drives them crazy (among other things) each day. Well, that and Teren who is very protective of his baby girl and refuses to acknowledge the fact that his daughter needs to be with Hunter. I wanted to see Nika adjusting to her new life as a vampire who couldn't get into the sunlight. I don't know if she handled it so well because she was already used to the other vampires coming out only in the night or if there was just no room for her to begin questioning how she was going to live the rest of her life.

I was really worried about who was going to make it out alive when I was reading the book. The villain in this one is the most threatening and he could have ended the vampires with his plans. No one was safe and it worried me. The book had a lot of twists and most of them somehow ended up giving something to the family (with some sacrifices on their part). I want one more book where I can see the family living their lives with all the new twists. It makes me sad to see the series ending. I want more. I don't want to say goodbye to the characters.

Read an excerpt from FAMILY IS FOREVER now!

Arianna had relaxed quite a bit during our conversation. Her demeanor was casual as she played with the strap of her shoe. Her laugh came naturally. It was easy to pretend that we were still together as we sat there talking. Our arms were even touching. It sent a jolt of electricity down my spine to feel my skin against hers again. It felt like we were finally shifting, finally moving in the right direction. It was everything I’d hoped tonight would be. After a brief pause in talking about our summer plans, Arianna pursed her lips and said, “Why have we never been friends before now? We’re in the same grade, and we must have had classes together before…but I don’t recall ever seeing you before a couple of months ago.” I sighed, not sure how to answer that. “I don’t know… We must have just kept missing each other. But I’m so glad that’s not the case anymore. You…there’s just something about you. You’re kind, warm, accepting. You see past people’s faults, to the person they are underneath. You’re patient, forgiving, and open to things that are a little…different. But you don’t take crap from anyone either, and you stand up for what you believe in. You’re just…amazing.” Her expression was blank. “You saw all that, sitting across the room from me?” I peeked up at her with a small smile that I couldn’t hide. “I see you, Arianna. I see the real you.” Straightening, I met her eye and held her gaze. “And I really like what I see.” Arianna held her breath as we stared at each other. Her heart rate spiked, and I momentarily felt bad that I could hear it. She’d probably be embarrassed if she knew I could. But then her eyes drifted to my lips, and I really didn’t care that I had a slight advantage. All I cared about was whether she wanted me to kiss her right now. Was she ready to see me as more? I leaned in, tentative and unsure. Maybe I was misinterpreting this. Maybe, because I wanted it so badly, I was seeing something that wasn’t there. My heart was thumping in my chest so loudly, Nika probably thought I was doing something much more strenuous than just sitting on a bed, staring at Arianna, and waiting for our second first kiss to happen.

Review:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

While thinking about what I should write in this review, I thought I should check out my review of Chase's first book aka Entice. In my review, I wrote " Chase needed a girl who would love him with all her heart". The whole time I was reading Eulogy I realized that Mil hadn't given him her whole heart. Only a part of it. And it pained me. It made me wonder about all the couples in the series. Are they really in love? Are they as broken as Mil and Chase were? I am not sure about anything anymore when it comes to Eagle Elite. I hope the rest of the couples are safe. Maybe that's the reason I am hoping to see the series ending soon. I don't want anyone else to go through what Chase did. My poor baby was broken. He wasn't the Chase I knew and loved. He was a broken man whose only mission was to kill the De Langes and drink. He almost burned his house. His relationship with Mil had cracks and I never noticed them. I can't believe that Mil was acting the way we saw her in the flashbacks. I had a different image for her in my mind.

I was a little hesitant when I began reading the book. I kind of wanted Mil to come back and reveal that this whole thing was a plot to find some things out. I am still not over her betrayal. I was feeling numb the whole time I was reading this. Luciana is a good woman. I liked her, but unfortunately, I met her in the wrong book. This time I am sure that she is the one who is going to love Chase with all her heart. She will be there to chase the nightmares away (and no that wasn't a pun). I am glad I didn't cry in this book. I have been crying for the last couple of books.

The book wasn't bad. The problem is me and my weird feelings. I liked seeing Chase starting to become a version of himself that a mix of the man I knew and the man who had been through hell. Luciana is the opposite on Mil. She wears pearls and screams when she sees a mouse. She is not one of the bosses. She is a regular girl who has no idea what been with the mafia means. If I had met her before I would have definitely sung her praises because she brought a different kind of air to the series. I am looking forward to seeing more of her in the next books. Honestly, she is amazing. What she did in her mission to save Chase is not something I am used to seeing, but she gained the respect of everyone. She is the best part of the book.

Excerpt:
BLOOD. BLOOD. BLOOD. It covered my hands. It surged through my heart. It dripped from my fingertips onto the concrete floor. Trapped. Broken. Finished. Hungry. Insanity scratched its way into my psyche as I eyed the door and waited. One heartbeat, two heartbeats, three… It opened. I fired two rounds, and acrid smoke filled the air. I thought I knew what love was. I was a fucking idiot. Every single bone in my body shuddered with rage, with the need to rip something apart, someone, anyone —all of them. My friends. My brothers. I brought the war to our house, and they would finish me because of it. I’d thought I loved her. Our love had been a lie. Her betrayal my only truth. And now? Now, I finally knew what love was. I’d seen it, smelled it, tasted it. And lost it. I’d fucking lost it. They would pay. They would all pay. For taking her. For turning her against me. For making me believe that blood was everything, only after mine was spilled.

Lauren captivated me with those big brown eyes of hers, and I knew my life would never be the same. What started out as friendship, has turned into so much more.

I was shocked when Tristian asked for my number. There hasn't been a day since that I haven't heard from him. He may be the drummer, but that deep sexy voice, it turns me inside out.

I assumed it would be one and done, but that's not how our story ends.

I worry it's not what he wants. He tells me he's Definite.

Review: HANNAH (Silicon Valley Billionaires, #3) by Leigh James

BLURB:
Before She Can Put the Past Away...There’s Hell to Pay.
Hannah Taylor—the bright, bubbly publicity director of Silicon Valley’s celebrated startup Paragon Laboratories—was kidnapped and beaten. Her bodyguard-boyfriend, Wesley Eden, was shot right in front of her. The responsible party? None other than Chinese mogul Li Na Zhao, who’ll stop at nothing to steal Paragon’s blockbuster biotechnology from Hannah’s CEO sister Lauren.
Now, Wesley and Hannah are back home and on the mend. Their relationship is tested as Wesley struggles to recover, and Hannah, fueled by the injustice of Li Na’s actions, is out for retribution while refusing to acknowledge the PTSD she’s grappling with from her kidnapping. Convinced that Hannah is hiding the truth about her captivity, Wes is determined to find out what really happened while Li Na had Hannah.
Out to protect her loved ones, Hannah is hell-bent on finally taking Li Na down, especially after she discovers that Paragon isn’t the only Silicon Valley company in Li Na’s crosshairs. Naturally, the ethically challenged Chinese CEO likes her position on top and refuses to give up without a fight...
But Li Na hasn’t grappled with Hannah Taylor when she’s bent on revenge.

Review:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Hannah is the third book in the Silicon Valley Billionaires series. For me, it cannot be read as stand-alone because Hannah and Wes are trying to live their lives and move on after the events of the second book. The big bad lady is the same villain from the other two books and the books are very connected. I am thankful for getting all the books for review because I would have been lost without Lauren and Gabe.

I don't want this book to be the last in the series because I feel like Ellis, Levi and Bethany should get their happy endings. We could have a spin-off or something. I am talking about the ending of the series because for the first time, we didn't get the first chapter of the next book at the end like it happened with the two previous books. It would really bug me if we never got to revisit these characters. Another thing that bugs me is that I am not certain how much time passes in these books. For how long was Hannah captive? How much time has passed in this book?

What I liked about this novel is that we got to see how Wes and Hannah were handling everything they went through. They didn't just say, I am good and moved on with their lives and I was glad for that. It was good seeing them having difficulties and showing signs of trauma not because I am a sadistic person but because it felt realistic.

The romance between the two main characters was good, but Lauren's words to Wes made me think about and doubt their relationship. It was possible that Hannah and Wes had stronger feelings for each other because of their traumatic experience. I would have given 5 stars to the book if I wasn't doubting them a little bit.
