People Brant like make me not believe in relationships these days. They are also the ones who kill romance for me. He thinks of Nikki in almost everything he does and yet he spends the four years he was away from her manwhoring and drinking. The drinking, I can understand. He and Nikki share a very tragic story. But manwhoring? Why? He even taunts Nikki with the conquests he had over the years. Brant is the worst hero in the series and I didn't like him from the beginning until the end of the book. I felt sorry for poor Nikki. She didn't deserve what happened to her or someone like Brant. She deserved someone like Cole. He proved that he was better than Brant more than once and he was the better man. I wish Nikki had gone on a couple of dates with him to give Brant a taste of his own medicine. This book is one of the few cases where I said that either the heroine or the hero was better off with someone other than the person the author intended them to be with aka the other main character. Cole should have gotten Nikki because he was the one who had her back when she needed help and was worried about her. Instead, he was pushed aside when mister STD came into the picture again. Not cool with me. Brant treated her badly when all those years back and in present time. And guess who came to the rescue.

I wish Cole will get a story. He needs to find his happy ending with someone who will love him. To be honest all the people in the resort were great and I would love a series where they get their happy endings. Or at least where Cole does. His character is my favorite, after Nikki. The "love of her life" is in the last place in case you are wondering. The people at the resort saved the book as well as Brant's family. I liked the heroine so she also gave points to the book. I just don't understand why she tried to have something with Brant after everything. Since Brant's type is the norm these days I will say that most of "romance" readers will enjoy the book so if you want go and read it. I know I won't do it again.

Coming home… I’ve hated Ben Rollins ever since he broke my heart in high school. I’ve never fully recovered from it…even though I ran away as far as I could. Now I’ve returned home, fleeing something worse than I could have ever imagined. When our Captain partners us up together, I’m forced to realize that what I feel for him isn’t hate at all. It’s far worse.
Second chances… Sarah’s the one who got away. She never really explained her abrupt departure from my life, but to be honest, I no longer give a damn. What we’d once had was dead, and now I’m stuck with her at my side permanently, no matter how I feel about it. But when the truth comes out, and old secrets are unburied, being thrown together becomes so much more than a second chance…it becomes life or death.
And we have no intention of losing.

Can we just get Marie and Hernadez's story? The wait has become tiring. Now that Hernadez has a new partner we can make her jealous just enough for her to realize her feelings for him and then we can get the party started.

I am not sure why I wanted to read this book since second chance romances are not my thing, but to be fair I liked the book with the exception of one thing. Before you ask it has nothing to do with Marie and Hernadez. It has to do with the reason Ben and Sarah broke up ten years ago. It was one of the silliest and most cliche reasons I would have guessed. I cannot believe that Sarah just left without demanding an explanation. Poor Ben. He tried to do something good and he paid for it. I wonder why he didn't chase her though. Another tiny thing I didn't like is the reminder that Ben and Grace had a past. Honestly, I end up hating one-night stands more than a relationship when it comes to other people. I was feeling awkward every time Ben and Grace had to interact. I didn't get their explaining either. Anyway, I was mostly not happy with the reason Sarah left in the first place. Also, she didn't come off as an experienced detective, but rather as a rookie. I thought she had more experience on the force.

To be fair to the book, once everything was out things got immediately better for me and the main couple (of course). Ben and Sarah never stopped having feelings for each other even if they buried them deep after they broke up.Everything became easier for them even if the force's rules prevented them from getting together. I loved how Ben acted in the end when he tried to get to Sarah and it showed how much he loved her. With a little reluctance, I would recommend the book.

Exclusive Excerpt Reveal: Claiming Bailey (Ace Security #3) by Susan Stoker

Susan Stoker
Claiming Bailey
Ace Security Book 3
Release Date Dec. 05, 2017

Blurb:

Opposites attract in the third Ace Security novel from New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker.
Bailey Hampton will do whatever it takes to keep both herself and her little brother safe from the vicious Inca Boyz gang. Hiding out in Castle Rock, Colorado, is only a temporary solution until she can earn enough money to get out of the state altogether. But when she meets handsome security nerd Nathan Anderson, she discovers a reason to stay and fight for what she wants.
Ace Security’s Nathan Anderson has always been the “numbers guy,” not the man any of the firm’s clients look to when their safety is threatened. But from the first time he ran into Bailey, she never made him feel like less of a protector than his brothers. Nathan was attracted to the petite, black-haired pixie with wild tattoos from the start, and by some miracle, she seems to return his interest.
But danger stalks Bailey and her brother, so it’s up to Nathan to channel his inner alpha and find a way to end the threat to their lives once and for all—and he’s not giving up Bailey without a fight.

Excerpt:

“Yo! Sis! We going or what?”

Nathan turned his head to see a boy with black hair hanging out the window of a classic car. He had no idea what make it was—he really didn’t know cars—but it looked sleek, shiny, and well cared for. The kid’s upper body was hanging out of the front seat, his hands braced on the window frame.

The woman in front of him didn’t respond, but reached around and pulled a card out of her back pocket. “Your car really does need some work. I’m happy to help. I work at Clayson Auto Body off Wolfensberger Road. It’s a bit out of the city, but if you’re interested . . .”

Nathan immediately held out his hand and took the business card. “I’m interested. I’ll call for an appointment tomorrow.”

She nodded and gave him a small smile. It wasn’t the smirk that had been on her face earlier. The one meant to keep people away. This was genuine and open.

“I’ll make sure to tell my boss you’ll be calling . . .” Her voice trailed off once more, this time in an obvious attempt at getting his name.

“Nathan. Nathan Anderson,” he readily supplied, expecting her to reciprocate.

“Later, Nathan.” She nodded at him and backed away toward her car.

Nathan opened his mouth to say something else, anything to prolong their chat, but she’d turned away and was striding confidently toward her car. He took a moment to admire her ass in the tight jeans as she walked, but didn’t say another word as she climbed into the driver’s side and drove out of the parking lot without another look back.

Reluctantly, and rather bemusedly, Nathan closed the hood of his car and got back inside. This time Marilyn started up without any issues, just as the woman said she would.

Looking down at the business card in his hand, Nathan swore he could still feel the heat of her body in the paper. Clayson Auto Body. There was a picture of a car with its hood up on the front along with the address, phone number, and e-mail of the business. He turned it over absently and froze.

Written on the back was a hastily scrawled note that simply said, Tell ’em Bailey sent you.

It was obviously something she’d written ahead of time on all the cards she carried, but that wasn’t what stopped Nathan in his tracks.

Bailey.

Was it a coincidence that the woman he’d been searching for over the last few months was also named Bailey? He and Alexis hadn’t found hide nor hair of Donovan’s ex-girlfriend. And they’d looked.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Master Bits & Mercenary Bites is a delicious book! It had recipes that seemed easy enough for me to do and short stories about the girls in the Masters and Mercenaries series. When I read At Your Service I was wondering who this Suzanne person was, because she was popping up at Topped and I had no idea what the author wanted to do with that character. As it turns out she is a real person who collaborated with Lexi Blake. The recipes are hers and I hope they are good. I haven't had the chance yet to try one of them, but I have kept some I liked that I might try them in the future.

The rest of the book is a collection of short stories about some of the couples we know and love. Each one is filled with love and Serena's made me cry. I haven't read her story yet but after this, her story has moved up on my TBR. We also get to experience the scene with Ian, Charlotte and the chair from their point of view. If you have read At Your Service you will know what I mean. Their story cracked me up. Their twins are amazing and they give me hope for a series with all the children from the couples. They will lead the team and the enemies are going to be doomed before they realize what happened to them. Ian and Charlotte's story had some tenderness in it too and I loved that story because of it.

Actually, all the stories showed how much each person loves their other half despite the difficulties each day brings to them. They don't have the perfect marriages, but their love is enough. You don't have to read these stories because you will miss something from the series, but I think you should read this book because each little story adds something to the lives of the people we know and love. They are sweet and when I think of them I have a warm feeling in my mind.

Excerpt from Rough Night

“You taste better than any pie, my Charlie,” Ian whispered against her lips. His hands tightened on her and she felt one of those big palms stroke her thigh. “Why don’t you straddle me and let’s see what happens.”

She knew what would happen. She placed the tray of treats on the table beside them and gingerly shifted, twisting so she straddled her Master’s lap. Yes, there it was. His cock was right against her pussy. All she had to do was…

Ian groaned as she rolled her pelvis. “That’s right, baby. Now give me some of that sweet, sweet lemony goodness. Ride me and feed me. That’s what I want. Let me watch you come.”

“And if I can make you come?” It was a fun little game. She would try to see if she could get that big dick of his to go off before she did.

“Then I’ll walk around for the rest of the night a bit on the uncomfortable side,” he

replied, his hands finding her hips. He shifted and she found herself with her clitoris in the perfect position. “But that’s not going to happen. I know exactly how to make you moan, Charlie baby.”

She felt her phone vibrate. Charlie winced. “It’s another text.”

He pumped his hips up against hers. “Answer it. If it’s anyone except Malone telling us one of the children is missing, I’m texting them a dick pic and asking them to leave us alone. Let’s see if you can text while I do this.”

His erection slid over the perfect place and Charlie could feel the orgasm starting to build. How could he still do this to her? All he had to do was start touching her, using that deep Dom voice on her, and her whole body was ready to comply to his any and every whim.

Did she have to answer? It probably wasn’t anything important. Was anything in the world as important as the way this man made her feel?

“Give me a taste of that tart, baby. Or better yet, pull those pretty nipples out and let me taste them. Let me lick and suck and bite on those sweet nipples.”

Her vision was going soft as he hauled her close.

And her phone vibrated again.

“Ian,” she started.

“Do what you need to,” he replied as he licked her collarbone. “I’ll do what I have to.”

She was going to kill whoever was texting her. It was probably Malone, trying to figure out where the damn marshmallows were.

She bit back a groan and reached for her phone. It better be so good because she was getting close, and the minute Ian started sucking on her breasts she wouldn’t be able to hold…

Do you have a fire extinguisher?

“What?” Charlie shifted, trying to get a better grip on the phone.

And the chair under Ian kind of exploded.

Charlie hit the floor, her knees knocking on the tile. Ian had gone backward but he’d managed to twist his body so he landed on his shoulder instead of knocking the back of his head against the windowsill.

Panic flooded Charlie’s veins. She scrambled to find her phone. “Ian?”

“I’m fine,” he groaned. “Call him. Damn it. Can’t we have one fucking night out without the world coming to an end? Ah, yeah, this is going to hurt.”

Had he thrown out his back again? She couldn’t stop and find out. Sarah Stevens was here somewhere and she was a nurse. Surely she could help.

Charlie grabbed the phone from the midst of the now fallen lemon tarts. The tray had turned over, but there were still several that had landed on the table. She would have to shove those in her purse if they were about to flee home. With shaking fingers she dialed the number for Michael.

“Hey, Charlotte, I think I got the fire out. Boomer stopped, dropped, and rolled on it. That did the trick. The girls thought it was hilarious, but we’ve got another problem now,” Michael was saying.

“There was a fire?” She practically screamed the question.

“Tell Boomer to sit on it,” Ian said from the floor. “Put him on speaker.”

She didn’t need his sarcasm, but he had the right to listen in. She clicked to go to speaker. “Where was the fire, Michael?”

“Well, you see when I told the girls we could have a campout in the living room, I kind of thought we would build a fort made out of sheets, you know what I’m talking about,” Michael

continued, his Texas drawl slow and steady. “Damn, Charlotte. I didn’t think the girls would take it so literally.”

Her girls took everything literally. “The girls tried to start a fire? In my living room?”

“It was minor,” Michael promised. “Mostly because they couldn’t take apart the furniture to burn. That was their plan. Apparently Ian taught them how to use whatever’s around to stay warm in case they find themselves out in the woods at night. I saved the sofa, but they did manage to get that wicker basket of yours to burn. Kala said she had to use it because she couldn’t get to the hatchet.”

Charlie turned to her husband. “Why would our daughters know how to use a hatchet?”

He was a nice shade of pale and his shoulder seemed weird. “You told me to teach them some life skills.”

She was going to kill everyone.

Excerpt:

It was Brant.
Always Brant.
Maybe that was because they’d never had any real closure. Just fighting, yelling, and then silence.
God, she’d hated the silence so much more than the yelling.
The silence crackled with tension—it was always filled with more meaning than when words were actually spoken.
It wasn’t the yelling that had killed their relationship.
It was the silence that had followed. When he had every opportunity to fix it—and didn’t.
Why was it so hard to move on? Probably because she hadn’t tried.
Instead, she’d worked. Tried to stay positive. And hoped.
Damn hope. Stupid hope.
“He’s not coming back for me,” she whispered, knowing that if she finally admitted he wasn’t coming, she would have to take her part of the blame in why. Because it wasn’t just on him to come running back. A small part of her knew that it was her job to meet him halfway. Instead, she’d ignored the need in his eyes, the desperate plea in his voice, and allowed grief to swallow her whole. Because at the time she’d needed someone to blame, and it was easier blaming him than herself.

Excerpt:

"Are we going to have another 'about last night' conversation?" I asked. "If you want to." What did I want to say? Everything. but mostly, I wanted to tell him how much I liked kissing him and how conflicted I was. I wanted to demand answers immediately and give him space at the same time. All the words tried to jump forward, but when he stopped at a light, our eyes met in the rearview. The words landed in a tangle, unsaid. He tapped the steering wheel when he turned it, using both hands for the first time since I'd gotten in. "Hey," I said. "Yeah?" He briefly looked at me in the mirror. "What happened to your hand?" "Burn." he brushed his left hand over the bandage at the top of his palm, right where you'd burn it if you were picking up a hot pot handle. He caught my eye in the rearview again. I didn't know if I believed him. "What were you cooking?" "Breakfast." "And you still went to get a Danish?" He rubbed his upper lip with his left hand and tapped the wheel with the bandaged one. "I burned my eggs." Right. Hot pot. Burned hand. Smoke-filled kitchen. "You know what's funny?" I said. "The Three Stooges." "I don't know anything about you. You could live in your mother's basement." "That's just where I bury the bodies." Blatant avoidance. It had been cute before; now it was getting on my nerves. "Are you married?" "No!" He could have been lying, buy lying liars always lied. There wasn't a thing I could do about that except make sure I asked. Something was wrong. We'd kissed twice, and twice he'd shut down. I should have been the one shutting down. I was the one with all the ex-boyfriend baggage. Why was I the one who was always so willing? But there he was in the front seat, driving with both hands on the wheel, glancing at me once in a while to make sure I wasn't choking on my tongue in the back seat. Discomfort radiated out of him. Here I was with my hands in my lap thinking about ways to kiss him again. He pulled into the little lot and wedged into a space. He turned off the car, popped his seat belt, and stared at the wheel for a split second too long. I was about to open the car door myself when he turned all the way around, arm over the back of his seat, bandaged hand on the back of the passenger side. "Kissing you..." He stopped and looked at my lips so intensely I folded them back and bit them. "You're dangerous. I can't even see your lips, but I can taste them. I couldn't brush the taste of you out of my mouth this morning. Right now. The honey. I can taste it but not enough. I want to kiss you again, and I can't. I lose my shit around you. I can't do it. My job is control. Do you understand what I'm saying?" My jaw loosened, and I let my lips go. "No, I don't. I've met bodyguards before. You're a stoic bunch, but you're not all celibate. And if you think this is easy for me, you're wrong. I'm afraid too. I'm afraid you're going to get hurt because of me. last night..." I put my fingertips to my lips as if that would keep the choking sob from coming. I kept it back. "Last night he showed me he's back, and if he'll hurt me, he'll hurt you." If I thought seats would be a barrier between us, I was wrong. He launched himself between them and placed his lips on mine. Our third kiss was unexpected, uncomfortable with him stretched between front and back. I wove my fingers in his hair, giving him my mouth, and taking his. I wanted that kiss to tell him it was all right. He could lose control. He could bemore than a protector. He was as safe with me as I was with him. But I couldn't without lying to both of us. He yanked his lips away. "Trust me." He leaned his forehead against mine. CD_AVAILABLE NOWlowercase_preview

About the Author

_21A6258_pp-fb 9.18.21 AMCD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels. She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.
