Blog tour: The One Night Stand (The Players #3) by Elizabeth Hayley

TONS availnow

Gabriel Torres thought his life after Major League Baseball would be simple and quiet, or at least quieter. However, as he takes over running the exclusive Players Club, he finds himself continually embroiled in scandal and drama. Surely nothing, and no one could make his life any crazier...Right?

Rachel Adler is a blast from Gabe’s past who crashed back into his life with the finesse of a freight train. But she's a welcome distraction. At least for a night.

Rachel has been working hard to become one of the top sports journalists in the country. She doesn't have time for a long-term romance or irresistibly charming baseball players. A one-night-stand with the man who she knew would hit it out of the park was all she wanted.

But when she gets a tip that Gabe could have ties to one of the biggest sports stories in history, a story that could make her career, Rachel decides that maybe she has a little time for the sexy baseball player after all. As she gets in deeper with both her story and Gabe, Rachel begins to question who she is, what she wants, and what exactly she’s willing to sacrifice for her career.

Will the potential grand-slam romance be stopped short or will Rachel and Gabe be able to go the distance?

Review:

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

The One Night Stand is the third book in The Players series and it can be read as stand alone. It follows Gabe and Rachel's story. These two had met and hooked up in the past, but after a long time, fate and a phone call brought them together again. For years, Rachel has been trying to get info about an exclusive athlete club which happens to be owned by Gabe. This is recipe for disaster. What bothered me the most about this book is that from the beginning until the end the whole relationship was built on a lie. I never got the feeling that they even had something real or close to a relationship. For me, the characters didn't have chemistry. For the first time, I didn't connect with either half of the main couple. I couldn't quite understand who the real Gabe was. He is a mystery to me and I don't have the mood to find out who he truly was. Rachel just left me indifferent. I couldn't care about her. Honestly, reading this book made me feel like I was doing a chore since I couldn't connect with it. I wouldn't recommend it.

“You have too many clothes on,” she said as Gabe nipped at her neck. “I agree. We should probably do something about that.” “We definitely should,” Rachel replied. She’d barely gotten out the words before Gabe had her moving through his hotel room toward the tall king bed and placed her on it, letting her legs dangle over the sides as he backed away to pull his Commanders jersey off. She gave him this little grin as she brought a finger to her lip and bit on its edge. He wondered if she knew how hot she was--if the act was intentional. But truthfully it didn’t matter. “Is it weird that I want to tell you how hot your chest is too?” she asked. The comment made Gabe smile as he popped the button of his jeans and unzipped them. He’d just begun to pull them down when Rachel said, “Leave them on.” Then she sat up and grabbed his waistband to pull him toward her. His erection, which was still straining against his jeans, perked up even further as Rachel’s lips slid over his lower abs. It was an image he’d file away in his brain for future use: her head moving near his cock as his fingers tangled with her dark hair. He let out a low groan when her hand pressed against his dick. She played with it over his pants for a while before pulling down the zipper the rest of the way and yanking down his boxers enough to free him. She stroked him a few times before Gabe needed his lips back on hers. His thumb stroking her cheek as he kissed her. Her moans grew louder as he rubbed against her, but finally he was able to pull himself away from her long enough to undo her skinny jeans and slide them down her legs. Her thong was next, and he savored the visual as the black lace traced over her skin. He fished a condom from his wallet and tore it open. Squeezing himself as he rolled it on held back his orgasm. Jesus, he couldn't wait to be inside her. He hadn’t thought about her in a while, but God, when he used to think about her he’d imagine how warm and wet she was. And it was that thought that had him returning to her, guiding her down on the bed to he could press into her. Somehow all of his fantasies couldn't even come close to the real thing. Her legs wrapped around his ass as her nails dug into his jeans to guide him even deeper inside. Then they began to move together, their bodies responding to the other’s in a way that he wasn’t sure he’d experienced before. She seemed to almost melt against him. The moans and choppy breaths that escaped her had him speeding up, though he didn’t exactly want this to end. He used his forearms to prop himself up so his weight wasn’t on her completely as he thrust into her. Her nails were on his back, scratching over his shoulder blades before sliding under his boxers. He tensed as her fingertips brushed over his ass, and he willed himself not to come anytime soon. He never thought he’d have Rachel Adler in his bed, and now that he did, he wanted it to be fucking memorable. And not just for him. He knew he’d never forget this. Though her legs were clamped around him, he pulled out almost completely and then drove back in. His thumb went to her clit the next time he withdrew, making her practically quiver beneath him. She was close, and he knew it. A few more steady thrusts into her had Rachel begging him not to pull out again. Her words only increased the pleasure of the moment for him, and he thought about how he’d never get enough of Rachel’s soft please. “Please, Gabe. God, yes. Make me…” But she never finished her sentence before her body quaked with the orgasm that Gabe could feel too. Gabe continued to pound into her until her climax faded enough that he could speed up to find his own release. He wasn’t even sure what he said as he came, but whatever it was he couldn’t help it. It was probably the hardest he’d come in a while, and Rachel had been the one to make him do it. Jace wasn’t the only one who’d won tonight.
Elizabeth Hayley is actually "Elizabeth" and "Hayley," two friends who love reading romance novels to obsessive levels. This mutual love prompted them to put their English degrees to good use by penning their own. The product is Pieces of Perfect, their debut novel. They learned a ton about one another through the process, like how they clearly share a brain and have a persistent need to text each other constantly (much to their husbands' chagrin).
They live with their husbands and kids in a Philadelphia suburb. Thankfully, their children are still too young to read.
Elizabeth Hayley's writing motto is best captured by the words of Patrick Dennis: "I always start with a clean piece of paper and a dirty mind."

The Alpha’s Forbidden Mate is the third in an all new series about men who may not be brothers by blood, but are brothers of the heart. And the realization that, regardless of how the Matthews siblings have been raised, sometimes you have to follow your heart, even if it's leading you down the hardest path.
This is a M/M novella.'

Review:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I was expecting more angst from this novel. Brick and Mateo have known that they are mates for so long, but they couldn't be together, so I thought the book would have been more angsty. It wasn't though and I was sad. The only negative thing about this book is that it didn't manage to make me feel anything. I love m/m stories, but this one wasn't very steamy and spicy. I wanted more scenes with these two on the bed. Other than that it was a good story, I like the way this author is writing her stories and I plan to read more of her books. I was very happy to see that this arc was available because I liked the second book in the series and this one didn't disappoint.  I would recommend this book and I hope the series won't end after this book. I am sure there other people in the pack who have stories that are waiting to be told.

Release Blitz: It's Complicated (Awkward Love #1) by Missy Johnson

Title: It’s Complicated
Series: Awkward Love #1
Author: Missy Johnson
Genre: Romance
Release Date: December 13, 2017

Blurb

They call him the Anaconda, and I'm pretty sure it isn’t because he likes snakes.

Nick Jenson is my neighbor. My hot, oh-so-sexy, very-well-equipped neighbor that I’d spend hours watching from the safety of my bedroom window.

I saw lots of things I probably shouldn’t have. Sometimes I’d touch myself, imagining it were his hands roaming over my body instead of my own. I had just one mission—to find out if the rumors were true.

Then one day, he caught me watching him.

I was mortified. I was prepared to quit college, move to another country, and live the rest of my life saying, “Nick who?” But, apparently, life had other ideas.

Because Nick? Well, he isn’t just my neighbor … He’s also my father’s best friend. If I thought things were difficult before, they were about to get a whole lot more complicated.

Oh, and those rumors? Holy fuck, are they true …

Review:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

It’s Complicated by Missy Johnson is the first book in a new series. It's a funny short story with a little dose of drama. The only thing over the top was Nick's package. I wonder how he was able to hide that thing in his pants. Honestly, the story was good and funny. I never tried to take this story very seriously and that worked for me. The age gap wasn't a problem because Nick is in his late 30's and Anna in her early 20's. The age gap could have been so much bigger. It was a good book and I got invested in the characters for some reason. I will read more books by this author. I liked this story and I plan to read more. The romance between the main characters is good and we got to see Nick's kids which was good.

Excerpt

I throw the rest of my coffee down the sink, suddenly unable to stomach it. I wait for dad to leave for work before I bolt next door search of Nick. I find him just as he’s closing his front door. I glance at the car, where the kids are already strapped in.

“Hey,” he says with a smile. He frowns when he sees my expression.

“Do you need to tell me something, Nick?” I growl, with my hands resting on my hips.

The color drains from his face. “Fuck. He told you, didn’t he? I’m so sorry, Anna. I couldn't help it. He invited himself along. What was I supposed to say to the guy?” he says weakly.

“Jesus, Nick. How about no?” I retort, still in disbelief.

“I'm sorry,” he protests again. “I really had no choice. Short of saying hey, I'm fucking your daughter, there was nothing that would’ve gotten me out of this.”

“Fine,” I growl, knowing I can’t be angry at him for this. “So, what’s the plan?” I say, rubbing my temples.

“I hired a houseboat. For a week,” he muttered.

“A freaking houseboat?” I laugh, shaking my head.

“Jesus keep your voice down,” he hisses, glancing at his car.

“You're telling me that for the next week, I'm stuck on a houseboat with my boyfriend, my father—who also happens to be my boyfriend’s best friend, and my boyfriend’s two kids?” Nick winces. “And you want me to keep my voice down?”

“Uh, is now a bad time to mention you dad just called me? He wanted to check that it was okay to bring Mandy.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” I mutter, shaking my head. “He must’ve called you the second he left the house.”

This just keeps getting better and better. I liked Mandy, but it annoyed me that he made this big deal about us spending time together only to turn around and invite his girlfriend.

What the hell am I going to do?

Kayla is in such bad hysterics that she's practically falling off the kitchen counter when I tell her about the mess that is my life.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” she huffs, barely able to spit the words out. “You've got to get me a ticket on that boat.”

“It’s not a fucking show, Kayla,” I growl. “There are no tickets.”

“Bullshit. This is going to be the show of the year,” Kayla giggles.

“Come on, please be serious, Kales,” I frown.

“I am being serious. You need me there,” Kayla says. The laughter is gone and there is nothing but honesty in her voice. The thing I love about Kayla is as crude and blunt as she can be, when you need her, she’s there. “I can help out with the kids and buy you more time alone with Nick. You think you’re gonna get any time with him without me there to cause a distraction?”

I think about it. Maybe having her there wasn't the worst idea in the world. If something went wrong and I needed an out, I know Kayla would figure something out for me.

Review:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Ford is the last book in the 7 brides for 7 soldiers. Overall the story is good and most of the characters are likeable. The small town setting is great and the secondary characters won me over easily. The heroine is a good person and I was able to relate to her. Ford on the other hand was the worst part of the book. He is unlikable and he is only bringing problems to us. He stained an otherwise great book. He has things to solve and to come into certain conclusions.  It was took him too much time to see what the others were seeing the whole time. If we had a better hero I would have given five stars to the book. I would recommend it though despite the not so good hero.

“What are you working on out here? More wreaths?” With a soft laugh, she pulled back and stepped out of his arms. “I am. Doing something like this is normally very soothing for me. When I got home, I came right out here rather than going into the cottage.” “And did it help?” Callie shook her head. “Unfortunately, it was so quiet out here, and I’ve already made four of these wreaths so I didn’t even have to think about what I was doing.” “So your mind immediately went to your mom.” She nodded. “Exactly.” Stepping around her, Ford examined the wreath. It looked exactly like the one she had given him for his grandmother’s front door, but now he took the time to look at the details. It seemed so simple at first glance, but when he realized how much time went into weaving the lights and how tedious that could be, he was more than a little impressed. The vine was fragile, and he knew he’d more than likely crush some of it if he tried to do it himself. Unable to help himself, he reached for one of Callie’s hands and studied it. It was small and delicate. Her fingers were slim and smooth. No wonder she could do work like this. He looked at her face and saw her studying him, her expression serious. And Callie rarely looked serious or intense. Her features were always relaxed or smiling. This was…different. He brought her hand to his lips and kissed her palm. “I was just noticing how intricate this work is,” he said gruffly. “I’m a little in awe of what you do.” “Me? But…what you do is so much more—” Ford placed a finger over her lips and shook his head. “I’m in awe of you,” he repeated, and slowly pulled her in close again. Callie’s lips parted on a soft gasp as her eyes met his. And those beautiful eyes seemed to have a million questions in them, and Ford only had one answer. He kissed her. Slowly. Sweetly. He savored her as she melted against him. She hummed as her arms wrapped around him and in that instant, Ford knew what he had to do. He lifted his head and looked down at her. Her lips were wet and her cheeks were flushed and she was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. So many nights over the last week they’d been like this, and right now, Ford knew he wanted more. “Come home with me, Callie,” he murmured against her lips before resting his forehead against hers. “Yes.” Never had a single word sounded sweeter.

He's everything I want, need, and can't resist: a man who looks like a god and bangs like the devil. Except he's still got his rules and he's still got his secrets . . .

But if there's one thing Caspian's taught me it's that you should never settle for less than you're worth. And I'm worth his trust. I have to show him that I see him. That I'm not afraid of his passion, or his power, or his past. And that I won't settle for less than everything.

Review:

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

How to Blow It with a Billionaire is the second book in the Arden St. Ives series and it's not really a stand-alone. As you can gather from the series title this is the story of Arden. Since Arden's name is the only one in the title, can I hope that he will choose not to have Caspian in his life and move on with another man? I don't know how many books I can handle. This one ended in a cliffy way btw. I hope to see a stronger Arden in the third book with another man and a life.

I decided to separate the next part of this review into two parts. The good and the bad stuff. I shall begin with the good stuff because there is only one. Arden was a better character. He didn't cry every two seconds. Also, he was tamer in this book and he actually made a couple of good choices. Should I consider a bonus the fact that I was actually able to finish this book? I DNF the first around 40%.

Now the bad things: Caspian. Who is this dude? I don't know him at all. He is still a mystery and the lack of his point of view is starting to getting annoying. I didn't feel like this was a romance book. The thing between him and Arden felt cheap and almost non-existent. The next big thing that bothered me is spoiler-y so stop reading this paragraph if you don't want spoilers. Is Arden bi? I thought he was gay-gay. If he never mentions an attraction towards women why create drama? I hated the scene when Caspian found Arden and his sister in a bed and immediately assumed they had sex. This is a very suspicious behavior. I wonder what Caspian did while he was away... That happened after half the book was gone, so you can see why I don't believe in this relationship.

I am still not invested in the series or the characters. I didn't like a single person in this book and the main couple is not even acting like one for most of the book. I wouldn't call this book a romance and I wouldn't recommend it.

About the Author
Alexis Hall was born in the early 1980s and still thinks the 21st century is the future. To this day, he feels cheated that he lived through a fin de siècle but inexplicably failed to drink a single glass of absinthe, dance with a single courtesan, or stay in a single garret.

He did the Oxbridge thing sometime in the 2000s and failed to learn anything of substance. He has had many jobs, including ice cream maker, fortune teller, lab technician, and professional gambler. He was fired from most of them.

He can neither cook nor sing, but he can handle a 17th century smallsword, punts from the proper end, and knows how to hotwire a car.

He lives in southeast England, with no cats and no children, and fully intends to keep it that way.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I swear every time I read a bok by Melissa Foster, the word sweet pops into my time like  289477420137 times and it almost makes my teeth hurt. She has a way of writing great romances without making them heavy or frustrating and I end up loving 95% of them. Just as I loved this book. Bodhi was great to Bridgette's son. He loved the kid and he is going to be an amazing dad to him. He was caring and he never thought of him as someone else's son. The author managed to mix all the elements of the book and produce a very good result. We got to see Bridgette being a mom, the owner of a flower shop and a woman and none of those aspects felt like they needed to develop more. Bodhi has his own family and friends who appear in this book. His profession the cause of worry for him and Bridgette, but in the end, everything works out. From the moment Bodhi's love for flowers was mentioned I wanted to see him working alongside Bridgette in her flower shop. For me, that would have been a great way to end the book, but I am satisfied with what I got. As usual, I would recommend the book because the small town setting is lovely and the main characters are great people.

Excerpt:

She wrapped her hand around his long fingers, and his eyes heated, never wavering from hers. She’d never met a man so intense. Her nerves were on fire as she led him toward the table where some of her family members were talking. Awareness of the significance of her decision, of the signals she was sending, slammed into her, and she slowed to catch her breath. Was she ready for this?

He put a finger beneath her chin and lifted, as he’d done at his front door, gazing thoughtfully down at her. “Would you rather I leave?”

She shook her head. “No. I’m just . . . I’m good.” And she was. She’d needed that pause to acknowledge and accept what she was feeling. She was nervous, but she wanted this. She wanted him. Her smile came genuinely, and earned her one in return. “Come on.”

She became more nervous as they approached the table. Willow was practically sitting in Zane’s lap as they mooned over each other. Piper and Talia were scoping out some guy across the room, and Ben was in a heated discussion with Aurelia. She shouldn’t be nervous. This was her normal.

Except normal didn’t usually include holding hands with a man she wanted to strip naked and devour.

“Well, well, well. If it isn’t the naked neighbor.” Mischief danced in Piper’s eyes as she pushed to her feet and strutted around the table in her skinny jeans and slinky little blouse. She set her hands on her hips, running an assessing eye over Bodhi.

His jaw clenched.

“Bodhi, this is my sister Piper. She works in construction and is around guys all day, which means she has absolutely no filter. Please take her with a grain of salt.”

He flashed a cocky grin. “For the record, I had a towel on.”

“For the record,” Piper said, “she wished you didn’t.”

Review: Claiming Bailey (Ace Security #3) by Susan Stoker

Susan Stoker
Claiming Bailey Ace Security Book 3 Release Date Dec. 05, 2017

Blurb: Opposites attract in the third Ace Security novel from New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker.
Bailey Hampton will do whatever it takes to keep both herself and her little brother safe from the vicious Inca Boyz gang. Hiding out in Castle Rock, Colorado, is only a temporary solution until she can earn enough money to get out of the state altogether. But when she meets handsome security nerd Nathan Anderson, she discovers a reason to stay and fight for what she wants.

Ace Security’s Nathan Anderson has always been the “numbers guy,” not the man any of the firm’s clients look to when their safety is threatened. But from the first time he ran into Bailey, she never made him feel like less of a protector than his brothers. Nathan was attracted to the petite, black-haired pixie with wild tattoos from the start, and by some miracle, she seems to return his interest.
But danger stalks Bailey and her brother, so it’s up to Nathan to channel his inner alpha and find a way to end the threat to their lives once and for all—and he’s not giving up Bailey without a fight.

Review:

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

First of all, you should be warned about some possible triggers. This book touches the subject of rape and we have an almost rape in the story. If you don't want to read about that, don't touch this book.

I decided to change my original 4 star rating to a three because when the time came to write this review the first thing that popped into my mind was Joel and how much I disliked his character. I also didn't like the back and forth in some aspects of the book. For example, Nathan and Bailey start as friends, then they go on a date, the decision to stay friends for whatever reason and then they become a couple again. The reason I disliked Joel so much was his attitude. I felt like he was only acting because Nathan told him so. All the other times Nathan wasn't in the picture, Joel was acting very abusive towards his sister. I get that he grew up with the worst gang members he could and they brainwashed him, but Nathan kept telling him how he should really act and he was "getting it", but every single time he was proving himself wrong. I wanted to read a scene (even a tiny one) where he did something good for his sister. Something nice, like making her breakfast or something. He wasn't seeing all the sacrifices his sister made for him (which were a lot) even when Nathan pointed them out. I am disappointed. The secondary characters can also mature and develop in a story that isn't about them.

It was weird to have the inexperienced geeky Nathan and the way more experienced Bailey. The roles for once were reversed and I was happy for that. Finally some change from the "norm". I liked their characters. I liked Bailey more because she was doing so much for her brother. I have to admit, that the events of her past are a little hazy to me. She had a father who warned her not to join the gang, but she did and took her brother with him? Or did her father die? If someone can answer that please do. I am asking you to do it because I don't see myself re-reading the book. I definitely plan on reading Felicity's book though.
