Scandalous Prince is the second stand-alone book in the Mafia Royals series by Rachel Van Dyken. The main characters are Violet Abandonato and Breaker. If you are familiar with the Eagle Elite series you will recognize Violet's last name. Breaker's family is a little more complicated and I won't dive into that. I also don't plan on saying anything about the story because the author has planned some twists and I might reveal them.
I feel like this book should come with a trigger warning because Violet was pretty much raped in the very first chapter. When they have drugged you and told you that you are going to have sex with someone you don't even know, it's rape. Of course Violet decided to give consent in her drugged state, so I think we are supposed to be ok with that. I wasn't because the whole "I consent" thing felt forced.
The second thing that bothered me is that it seems like all the children of the EE parents seemed to be pairing with each other even if that is supposed to be forbidden. First, it was Serena and Junior, Violet and Breaker in this book, and Violet's sister with Maksim (did I spell that right?). I don't root for the last couple though. I do root though for Asher and Anna. They were certainly interesting and I would love to get my hands on their book soon! I bet it's going to be the best in the series.
The main characters are interesting and more complex than I though. My feelings for Violet grew as I kept on reading and by the end of the book, I was proud of the person she had become and was actually a badarse. Breaker is the most complex of the two and there was an aura of doomness around him the whole time. And of course, we have Valerian who along with Asher have some chapters told from their point of view. I don't want to touch the Valerian subject so I will just say that I ended up liking him more than I liked Breaker. Also no, this is not a triad/harem book, in case you were wondering.
Overall, I liked the book and I would have liked it even better if it wasn't for the first chapter, even if it does set up the rest of the story. I am looking forward to Asher and Anna's book and I would recommend this one.
