Already Gone, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by New York Times bestselling author Kristen Proby and USA Today bestselling author K.L. Grayson

Falling in love is easy…
New Hope, South Carolina is my home. It’s where I grew up, got into trouble, and fell in love for the first time. Scarlett Kincaid was more than the girl next door, she was my best friend, until she decided that small town life wasn’t for her. One minute she was here, and the next she was gone.
The girl I used to fish with down at the creek is now the biggest name in country music. She headlines world tours, has won four Grammys, and I haven’t seen her since. Until today when she sped through town in her fancy car. One look at her big brown eyes was all it took to stir up a whole slew of emotions. Emotions I’d long ago buried and sure as hell don’t have time for.
It’s the aftermath that’s hard…
There are two things in my life that matter. My music, and my dad. Twelve years ago, I packed a bag and chased my dream. Leaving New Hope and escaping the gossip mill was the easiest decision I ever made. I never planned to return, but my father needs me, and he always comes first. So, I did what I had to do. I cut my tour short and came home, despite having a sister who hates me, and a community that doesn’t trust me.
And then there’s Tucker Andrews.
When he propped an arm on the roof of my car, pulled down his sunglasses and flashed his police badge, I nearly swallowed my tongue. Gone is the lanky boy who used to throw rocks at me and pull my pigtails. Tucker is now a six-foot package of brawny, sexy man wrapped in more muscle than I have hit singles. Did I mention he’s a cop and a single dad?
My goal was to help Dad, and get back to my life. But what am I supposed to do when the life that used to strangle me suddenly fits like a glove, and makes me dream of things I never thought I’d have? What happens when the boy I walked away from years ago becomes one of the most important people in my life? I don’t have room for a man much less love.
Right?
Because it’s impossible to hold onto someone who’s already gone.

Review:

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Already Gone is a stand-alone novel Kristen Proby and K.L. Grayson. The main characters are Scarlett, a very famous singer and Tucker a single dad whose job I cannot recall. His daughter Chloe is a preteen and her personality matches that so I consider you to have been warned.

I know that the majority of people won't agree with me, but I hated Scarlett. She left everything and everyone behind to have her career and I was ok with that, but she was acting all hurt and offended when the people she left behind were not her biggest fans. I understood why her sister shut her out eventually and why she was cold to her. It didn't seem like Scarlett tried to keep up with the people she was close to and she wasn't aware of what was going on with her father even though she kept contact with him. I also didn't get her sudden change of heart. One day she was like "I don't want to do that" and the next she was "Let's do this, people!" and I am talking about a very big and serious change. Even I felt like Scarlett was letting me down. At least her interactions with Chloe were good and she made me think that she would be a good stepmom.

It's hard to like a book when you dislike one of the main characters, but until Scarlett really started to get on my nerves, I was enjoying the story. I feel like the conflict, in the end, was resolved too quickly and simply because these characters had to get their happy ending. Tucker, his daughter Chloe and Scarlett's father were the bright spots in this book and they saved it from being a DNF for me. I am a big fan of Kristen Proby and I will continue reading her books. K.L. Grayson is a hit or miss author for me and I cannot say with certainty if I will continue reading her books. I will remain neutral on the recommendation.

  Excerpt:
New Hope, South Carolina. Population 6,129. I know every soul represented in that number. Not a single one of them drives the shiny red Mercedes that just went speeding by. Seventy-five in a forty-five. I flick on my lights and press on the gas, sending my cruiser flying past the city limit sign and the godawful billboard that sits directly behind it; the one declaring New Hope home to country music superstar, Scarlett Kincaid. It wouldn’t be a big deal if this were actually her home. It’s not. Scarlett may have been born here, but her fancy boots haven’t landed on this soil in over a decade. All it took was one call from a hotshot music executive to send her packing before the ink was dry on her high school diploma.
Scarlett flew from this town fast enough to leave our heads spinning. Before any of us could process what had happened, little Scarlett Kincaid—the same girl who used to build forts with me in my living room while my mama made us mac ‘n’ cheese—had a hit single sitting at number one on the Billboard charts. She went from homecoming queen and most likely to marry a rich spouse in our senior yearbook, to the queen of country music. The country loves her. Hell, the whole world loves her. New Hope…not so much. And it’s high time that fucking sign comes down. But first, I have to deal with this speed demon in the sexy red car. I sound the sirens, and the car pulls to the side of the road and waits while I walk to the driver’s side window. It’s still up, the heavy tint preventing me from seeing inside. With a hand on my holster—because you never know what you’re going to walk up on—I knock on the window. The dark glass lowers. My first thought: this woman is absolutely gorgeous. Long, dark hair. Pouty lips. And a tiny pink dress.
Her eyes are covered by oversized aviators, but I’m sure they’re as pretty as the rest of her. My second thought: what crazy excuse is she going to come up with to try and get out of this ticket? It never ceases to amaze me the things women are willing to do to keep from getting into trouble. I’ve been offered everything from a blowjob to a pay-off to marriage. “Do you know why I pulled you over today, ma’am?”
“Tucker?” The woman smiles, then pushes her sunglasses to the top of her head. And that’s when I see the brown eyes I’ve spent more than a decade trying to forget. “Tucker Andrews, is that you?” I step back and square my shoulders. “You can call me Officer Andrews.
Do you know why I pulled you over today, ma’am?” “Tucker.” The woman laughs and shakes her head. “It’s me, Scarlett.” At the mention of her name, I’m met with an onslaught of flashbacks. Running hand and hand through the neighborhood with her, laughing and playing, only to have her ignore me the second we got to school.
The popular crowd versus the nerds who desperately tried to fit in. She the former, me the latter, and the pain it caused every time she acted as though she didn’t know my name. For years, I pretended it didn’t bother me because I knew that when I got home, Scarlett would meet me at the fence, and the awkwardness from the day would dissipate as though it never happened. But it did. Day after day after day. I was a glutton for punishment.
There was nothing in the world I loved more than Scarlett Kincaid, and it didn’t matter how badly she hurt me, I was always willing to forgive her. Her smile and laugh might’ve gotten to me in middle school and high school, but I refuse to let it affect me now. “I know who you are.” Her smile falters.

Pie isn’t just a dessert, it’s a way of life.
Pies, fillings, jams, jellies, honey, they’re all a part of my award-winning business, Firefly Kitchen. After being left behind, by everyone, I was determined to make it all on my own, and I have. I love what I do, I love what I’ve created, and I love who I’ve become. Yes, it’s small, but it’s mine, and nothing or no one can stop me now. Not even Bryan Brennen. He may have returned, but it won’t be long before he leaves. And regardless of which way you slice it, some things can’t be forgotten, no matter how sweet the taste.
Bryan Brennen
Football isn’t just a sport, it’s a way of life.
I’ve spent more years than I can remember chasing my dream. When you come from nothing, it’s even more important to become something. The unstoppable drive and incomparable determination that is ingrained in me has gotten me to where I am now; twenty-eight years old and undoubtedly the best professional quarterback in the league. To be happy is to be perfect. Plans, plays, passes, I’ve mastered them all, but it was never just for me, it was for her, too. Only she doesn’t know it, and now, ten years later, I’m ready to tell her.
She’s a small town girl. He’s a household name.
Off the field and out of the kitchen, will they break and crumble, or finally get their second chance at the biggest game of them all . . . love.
Bryan
“How long has it been?” Jack asks as he walks up into our conversation. There’s a fork sticking out of his mouth, and I can’t help but roll my eyes. You would think after how much pie he shoved down his throat yesterday he’d be in sugar shock, but nope, he’s back at it again today.
Catching my expression, he grins. “What? I can’t help that it’s all so good.” His eyes widen as he spots the two new boxes, and he tips his head. “What kind are those?”
I pick up the boxes and hand them to him. One says grasshopper pie, and the other says cherry.
“Yes! Can I take these home?” he asks, his voice so hopeful.
“Sure, and it’s been a while since I’ve been back—years, in fact,” I answer as I look at Jack. I’m certain my frown relays that it’s been more than just a few years, but only I know that the true answer is never. I’ve never gone back home.
He tucks the boxes under his arm, the sleeve of his clean shirt bunching up. He’s already showered and ready to go.
“I understand.” He nods and then breaks eye contact. “I don’t really have any one place I call home, so I haven’t been anywhere in years either. We moved around a lot with my father’s career, and now they’re retired in Scottsdale. I love the water way too much to think about staying there long-term.”
I agree. I love the water, too, which is why many people were surprised when I bought my house on the river instead of downtown or on the island with my other teammates. The minute I walked out the back door, which faces northwest, I knew it was the one for me. Yes, the river cuts through the city, but the view across from me is undeveloped, wooded, and it makes me feel like I’m not in the city. It’s perfect.
“What time is the ceremony? Want me to go with you?” Reid asks. I should have known he would offer. He’s loyal and a true friend like that. Not many would give up their day off to drive two hours in the car, stand in the heat, and then drive two hours back.
“It’s at ten, and thanks, but no thanks. I might make a few stops while I’m there.”
Not a few stops, just one, maybe, but I don’t tell them that.
Tossing my cleats and helmet into my locker and my dirty clothes into my bag, I grab a towel, wrap it around my waist, and turn to find both Reid and Jack staring at me. It’s like they know tomorrow is more of a big deal than I’m letting on, so I slip into my role as a leader and try to assuage their concerns.
“Don’t worry, boys.” I smile real big and see both of them shift away from the uncertain tension that had set in between them. I throw out my arms and begin walking backward toward the showers. “I’ll be back and on the plane for our game this weekend first thing the following morning.”
If only it were that simple.

Review: Kiss Me Not (Kiss Me #1) by Emma Hart

KMN-BANNER-LIVE

What do you do when you’re the reigning kissing booth champion but the only person you want to kiss is your best friend’s brother?

Kiss Me Not, an all-new hilarious brother's best friend romance from New York Times bestselling author Emma Hart is available now!

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000035_00027]

Let me make this clear right here, right now: I, Halley Dawson, do not care that Preston Wright is kissing other women.
Not a lick. Not at all. Nuh-uh-freakin’-uh.
I do care that he’s doing it six feet away from me behind a gaudy velvet curtain—making him my competition in this year’s kissing contest.
Why do I care, you ask? Because I’ve had an unfortunate crush on the insufferable idiot since I was sixteen years old, but I also know it’s never going to happen.
He’s the Creek Falls bachelor to die for, and I’m the Creek Falls racoon lady who puts peanut butter sandwiches out for them every night.
I’m not going to let him break my four-year-long reign—no matter how many times he breaks the rules and slides the curtain across to do the one thing he’s not allowed to:
Kiss me.

Review:
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Kiss Me Not is the first stand-alone novel in the Kiss Me series by Emma Hart. The main characters are Halley the kissing booth queen and Preston the brother of one of Halley's friends. So I am going to point the obvious and say that the main trope of this book is the beloved "best friend's brother". The blurb pretty much covers what you need to know about the story before you begin reading it.

If you have read The Accidental Girlfriend you might remember meeting Halley there. If you haven't, no worries. This is a stand-alone novel and Lauren and Mason make a very brief appearance in this book. Some events of the books are happening at the same time, but that's the only thing these books have in common and I am mentioning it because I was surprised to see the other couple again.

As for this couple, I will say that I liked them together. The attraction between them was present before the book even began and they certainly took their sweet time to go from two people crushing on each other to a loving couple. But for me, their story worked out nicely. Halley has a very special relationship with the raccoons she is feeding and it was a fun part to read. To be honest, sometimes I felt like she had a chip on her shoulder and she was making things more serious than they were meant to be. Preston was a refreshing presence in the book because he is not your usual manwhore and he is actually a decent guy. I was so happy to get the chance to read a book with him as the hero.

I will admit that Kiss me not is not, in my opinion, one of Emma Hart's best works. It's good, but not as good as other books she has written in the past. I did get hooked on the two future books though. They will be about Halley's friends and we were mostly teased about the third book I think. The order doesn't matter. What matters is the way I am going to convince Emma Hart to give me those books in the next couple of days. I can't wait for them

Excerpt:
“I never answered your question.” “What question?” I darted my eyes to the side. “Just now. You asked me if I wanted to kiss you.” I did, didn’t I? Right. “Oh,” was all I said. Slowly, he moved his hand to my chin and gently lifted it. Still, I didn’t look at him, keeping my eyes firmly trained on the front of the tent, even though I was facing him. “Halley.” “Yeah?” “I want to kiss you.” My eyes darted to his. “I thought that’d do it.” His lips twitched, and he lowered his head until I had to fight the urge to close my eyes in anticipation of the kiss that was coming. I swallowed, my lips parting. Preston moved closer. And he kissed my cheek. I jerked out of whatever trance I’d just been in. “What the hell?” He jumped off the stage, grinning. “I guess we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to break the stalemate, won’t we?” “Oh, hell no!” I jumped off, stalking him to his side of the stage. “You just stood there in front of me and told me you want to kiss me, then kiss my cheek? The hell was that?” His eyebrows shot up, amusement flashing in his eyes. “If I didn’t know better, I’d think you wanted to kiss me, too.” “Irrelevant,” I shot back. “But you’re a special kind of asshole to tell a girl you wanna kiss her and then not do it.” I turned around, then stopped. “You know what? When I beat you tomorrow, you can kiss my ass.” “You’re way too mad about this.” “I’m not mad!” My voice raised a few octaves. “I couldn’t care if you want to kiss me or not. I most certainly don’t want to kiss you.” “Why are you shouting at me?” “I’m not—” I was shouting at him. “Whatever,” I said in a normal voice. “Make sure you take that money to the bank. Tell Tish I sent you.” I left him on his side of the curtain and went to get my purse. He could get fucked. After all that where I think I was so damn nervous I broke a sweat, he didn’t even kiss me. I wasn’t lying with what I said. He could kiss my ass. I’d even wear my good panties and bend over for him.

When she meets Cody, the hot lead singer of an up-and-coming band, the passion between them is electric. But Cody’s long-buried secrets could get in the way of them finding a lasting rhythm.

Three lives collide in an explosive story of desire, betrayal, and music.
But they are not alone.
Dana is being watched, stalked by a listener who plans to make her his…by whatever means necessary.

“A fast-paced and fun throwback to the heyday of the radio era.”—Kirkus Reviews

“It had me hanging on until the very last page.”—Readers Favorite

Before iPods and mp3s, satellite and internet radio...before corporate America changed the rules, radio was the ultimate music medium, and disc jockeys ruled the music world. This is their story.
1998 (cue the music)
Dana Drew felt like her world was closing in. She could feel a cry rise in her throat as she tried to compose herself. Loud rock music blasted from the speakers. She loved rock, but hated this song. Of course it would be playing now, she thought. Everything she knew and believed was turning out to be a lie. The man she loved was pulling away from her. Sam hadn’t said it, but she could feel it—the relationship she’d invested her heart in was coming to an end. The chaste kisses, the dismissive way he spoke to her, the late nights at the office. She confronted him before she left for work today (not her best timing), but he denied anything was going on. In many ways, the torture of uncertainty was worse than knowing it was over. A small sliver of hope gnawed at her logic. Could she be reading it wrong? Maybe it was all in her mind. The pit in her stomach argued otherwise. The digital clock on the board in front of her continued to countdown. 01:00, 00:59, 00:58… Time didn’t care about her pain, it just plowed forward into what now was the unknown. Plans, dreams, hopes were disappearing. Could she ever trust her judgement again? Would she ever love again? Tears stung her eyes, but she held them back, taking a deep breath. The song was quickly ending and she needed to regain her composure. Disc jockeys didn’t have time for feelings when they were on the air. The final notes played. Dana potted up the fader, put on her headphones and coaxed a smile into her voice. “Good afternoon…what a fabulous day! Great weather and awesome music. Who could ask for anything more? Love that song! Hope you do too ‘cause I’ve got more just like it coming up on Miami’s rock station, WORR!” Her life was falling apart, but to her listening audience, all was right with the world. It wasn’t normal. It was rock and roll.
(turn it up)
Jonny Rock just got laid. Tall and tan, with bright, spiky, bleached-blond hair, Jonny was a rock star—in his own mind. Jonathan Roeker had been a poor student from Philadelphia. Bad grades and an even worse complexion were not a recipe for success. But he had drive, raw ambition and an intense love of music. Besides, radio deejays didn’t need a pretty face, just a good set of pipes and a lot of attitude. Jonathan was blessed with both. An overnight shift, a skillful dermatologist, and Jonathan was on his way. Jonny Rock was born and Jonathan Roeker was left far behind in a middle-class suburb. Now Jonny was the man, the assistant program director of WORR—Only Rock and Roll, Miami’s alternative rock station. It wasn’t an easy road, but he had made it. And he was loving every minute of it. Jonny stretched his arms over his head and flipped on the radio. It was two in the afternoon and he was on the air. The miracle of voice-tracking, he thought to himself. He could record his breaks the night before into an automated computer, giving himself free time in the afternoon for some extra-curricular activities. All while his wife listened to him “live” on the air. He couldn’t ask for a better set-up…

Bestselling author Lisa Wainland has spent more than two decades in the world of radio. When she’s not writing, Lisa is a successful voiceover artist who works with some of the biggest names in radio and television. Rock Radio is an Amazon bestseller and Readers’ Favorite Award winner.
