TEMPTING THE LAIRD Synopsis:

Mystery and desire cloak the Scottish Highlands

Unruly. Unmarried. Unapologetic. Catriona Mackenzie’s reputation precedes her everywhere she goes. Her beloved late aunt Zelda taught Cat to live out loud and speak her mind, and that’s exactly what she does when Zelda’s legacy—a refuge for women in need—comes under fire. When her quest puts her in the path of the disturbingly mysterious Hamlin Graham, Duke of Montrose, Cat is soon caught up in the provocative rumors surrounding the dark duke. Never one to retreat, Cat boldly goes where no one else has dared for answers.

Shrouded in secrets, a hostage of lies, Hamlin must endure the fear and suspicion of those who believe he is a murderer. The sudden disappearance of his wife and the truth he keeps silent are a risk to his chances at earning a coveted parliamentary seat. But he’s kept his affairs tightly held until a woman with sparkling eyes and brazen determination appears unexpectedly in his life. Deadly allegations might be his downfall, but his unleashed passion could be the duke’s ultimate undoing.

I am going to give 3.5 stars to the book because I feel generous today. The book wasn't one of my liking. I would have loved some romance that actually feels like romance. The developing love between Catriona and the Duke fell short and I would have liked something more passionate. We had many sub-plots that stole the spotlight from the couple. At least we got to see them slowly go from acquaintances to something more, so it's wasn't that insta-love theme that has found its way to the historical romances too. What I like about the highlands is that they are not as restricted as England was at the time and women are able to express themselves more than the average English woman. I loved the duke and his ward. I wish we had more scenes with just the two of them. They were acting like father and daughter and they were cute.

The book was easy to read and I read it very fast. The pace was good, but I wish we had dived a little bit more into the characters and the things that made them act like they did. I also wish we had seen the duke at the parliament since in my head it's a great scene and it would add a lot to his character. With a little hesitation, I would recommend the book.

Review:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

What I really liked about this book is the no ow/om drama. Hope is supposed to find a woman for Rafe, but he doesn't even go on a date with a woman other than Hope. He had his sights on her and never took his eyes off the target. The second best thing is that the book is a stand-alone novel and even though I am pretty sure the characters from the first book appear, you don't have to read their book and you will enjoy the novel without a single problem.

It's been a while since I read a BDSM novel and this one is good. I enjoyed it and it was hot. What wasn't hot is Hope's behavior in the last parts of the book. She suddenly wanted love and romance and she wanted to change something that was already good, while there were no promises for something like that. I know this is a romance novel, but it was a little unexpected and out of the blue which left me with a bad impression of her. That was the only thing I didn't like when it came to this novel and that's the reason I will give it 4 stars and a recommendation.

The air conditioner kicked on. The whispering cool air did nothing to dissipate the heat between Rafe and Hope, his beautiful, but unwanted matchmaker. He slid his hand around to the back of her neck, then feathered his fingers into her hair. “I want to kiss you, Ms. Malloy.” “Uhm…” “Ask me to.” She scowled. “I won’t have you pretending that you’re not curious. This room is swimming with your pheromones. Deny it.” She sagged a little against his hand, and he tightened his grip on her hair, as much to offer support as to imprison her. “You’ll remember this moment, fantasize about being mine.” “No…” “Invite me to kiss you or tell me to release you. The power is yours. Yield to temptation or leave, wondering if it’s as good as you imagine it will be.” “This can’t be happening.” Despite her protest, she didn’t try to escape. “It’s the first time I’ve had any sexual longing for an adversary. Ask me to kiss you,” he repeated instead of arguing. “Be sure to say please.” He loosened his grip, and she leaned toward him, keeping herself hostage. Rafe didn’t smile with triumph. “Kiss me.” “There’s nothing I’d enjoy more.” That wasn’t the entire truth. There were a hundred things he’d like to do to her, but he made no move Her internal standoff lasted longer than he thought it would. Excellent. She had a stubborn streak. Hope glanced away and sighed. Then she looked at him with clear, confident eyes. “Please kiss me.” He could drown in her and be happy about it. He captured her chin to hold her steady. On her lips, he tasted the sweetness of her capitulation. “Open your mouth, sweet Hope.” She did, and he entered her mouth, slower than he would ordinarily, softer than he would if she were his submissive. Hope responded with hesitation, and he continued on, driving deeper, seeking more. Within seconds, she yielded. She moaned and raised onto her tiptoes to lean into him. A few seconds beyond that, she wrapped her arms around him. Hope, his adversary, had now become his willing captive. He released her chin and moved his hand to the middle of her back, then lower to the base of her spine. Rafe drank in the scent of her femininity. His cock surged, not from ordinary arousal, but from soul-deep recognition. Her eagerness sought the Dom in him. It took all his restraint not to press his palm against her buttocks. He wasn’t sure how he’d banish this memory of her—strength and suppleness in one heady package. She offered more until she was panting and desperate, gripping him hard. Instead of giving in to the driving need to possess her, he distracted himself by tugging on her hair harder. As he’d requested, her eyes were open. So trusting. Did she have any idea how close he was to shredding the veneer of civilization that hung between them to claim her, mark her as his?

Neither Charlotte or Beau is looking for an attachment or a fling,
but true love is hard to ignore.

ANYTHING FOR LOVE
The Bradens and Montgomerys
Pleasant Hill ~ Oak Falls, Book 2
Melissa Foster
Releasing June 27, 2018
World Literary Press

After Charlotte Sterling loses her last family member, she moves to Sterling House, her family’s Colorado mountain inn, to live a solitary life. As an erotic romance writer, her days and nights are filled with passion and intrigue—even if only fictional. She loves her busy, quiet lifestyle, and she learned early on that real men can’t live up to the fictional heroes she creates—until ruggedly handsome Beau Braden arrives to do some work at the inn and, for the first time in forever, she’s intrigued by a real man.

Beau lost his first love years ago, and he’s never let go of his guilt over her death. As he nears the anniversary of his loss, he is on the cusp of becoming the star of a home-renovation reality show. Escaping the painful memories of his past to work at the defunct old inn is just the promise of solitude he needs to clear his head before diving in to the all-too-public career. But he didn’t count on being attracted to the whimsical, adorably sexy innkeeper.

Neither Charlotte nor Beau is looking for an attachment or a fling. But the more they learn about each other, the closer they become. Romantic evenings lead to intimate conversations, and neither can deny their deep connection or the passion it sparks. They’ve never fully healed on their own, but together maybe anything is possible.

Review:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Anything for love is the second book in The Bradens & Montgomerys (Pleasant Hill - Oak Falls) Series. The series title is a mouthful, but what matters is the inside and that's pretty good. To be honest, when I finished the book I went for the 5-star rating, but now as I am processing things, I feel like 4-stars is the best rating for the book. It had some great qualities like Charlotte and her blow up dolls and it also had some not so good qualities like the zero drama and lack of a wow factor. To say it plainly the food needed more spices and I am not talking about the lovemaking scenes. I feel like something is missing and it's what the book needs in order to be perfect. I cannot say that the writing quality has decreased a lot and I understand that the author cannot always write books that will be perfect to me. This one was good though. I liked Charlotte and Beau's relationship. Their chemistry was amazing and they managed to work in sync. I also liked how Beau was taking care of her and he understood that when she needed to write, she was going to be in her writing room without paying attention to him. He is the ideal partner for her. Charlotte was a lot of fun with her blowup dolls and her habits in general. If she was a person in real life I would want to be her friend.

Don't miss the next in series!

Review:

Rating 4 out of 5 stars

The reason why I cannot say much about this book can be summed up in one word. Spoilers. The story begins eight weeks after the events of the first book and even if Reyna was in a bad situation things were going surprisingly well. Beckham was doing his own stuff and I was not very happy with him. The book was good and it had a good flow. I kept reading to find out what was going to happen next and then came the last chapter. Which ends with the biggest cliffhanger we could ask for and it's terrible. I cannot bring myself to worry though and demand the next book because I know that everything is going to be fine. I have faith. K.A. Linde has a way of surprising us though and I am also kind of dreading the final book too. So many mixed feelings for me. On the bright side book #3 will be released in a little less than two months so the wait won't be that long. The secondary characters were also a good part of the book and I want to see more of them.

Excerpt:

“Please.” She wasn’t above begging. “I’ve waited so long.”
“I won’t bite you,” he said, his face sliding down between her legs. A fang nipped at the sensitive artery in her inner thigh. “But I bloody well want to.”
Did she even care if he bit her? It would be a relief after what she’d endured. A relief to feel that connection so acutely. But she wouldn’t press him this time. She remembered how they’d gotten carried away. He’d taken too much, drank too deeply, and she could have died. They needed to take it slow.
The blood. Not the sex. She needed that right now.
His finger slicked through her wetness and began to massage her clit. She vibrated from the sensation. She didn’t know if she’d be able to hold out before he was inside of her.
Then his eyes found hers again. His boxers disappeared and then his cock was in his hand. He massaged the length of himself as he watched her walk on a tightrope. Any second she was going to fall off and into oblivion. Nothing and no one had ever made her feel so good. No. No one had ever made her feel.
“So . . . close,” she ground out.
One powerful thrust seated him to the hilt within her. She cried out as he stretched her to the max. No warning or preamble just his cock inside of her, filling her to completion.
Her walls clenched around him. She was so close, but instinctively, she knew he wasn’t going to let her release without him.
Then he started moving. A slow pull out and a quick drive inward. Once, twice, three times.
“Not yet,” he said, his eyes commanding.
She tried to hold back. She could wait. Oh God, she could wait.
Then he started up the rhythm again. Setting his own course, owning and claiming her body. Reclaiming everything that he’d lost in that one moment of stupidity on her part. In his one moment of weakness.
She could see in his eyes the weight that loss had cost him. The toll it had taken on him for giving into his urges, for finally relinquishing his hold on himself. His eyes said he’d never do it again. His eyes were a promise.
“Becks, come with me,” she cried, clutching the sheets.
He grasped her hips and owned her body where he refused to own her blood. Taking everything she would give him, but not everything he wanted. Not everything she wanted.
She was so close. She looked in his eyes and knew they would finish together.
Reyna woke up screaming.
She jolted upright in her overly plush king-sized bed with its too many pillows and too much softness. Her hair was plastered to her face. Sweat coated her body, soaking through the thin white shirt she’d worn to bed.
Her eyes adjusted to the dim lighting and she looked around the small room. Everything was in place. Nothing had changed. Not a damn thing.
Beckham wasn’t here.
It had been a dream. A sick dream. A desperate horrible dream.
Her hand moved to her cotton panties and found the slicked wetness still there. The ache still building in her lower half from lack of release. The aftereffects of the dream. It had felt so real. So very real.
She had felt him moving inside of her. She had seen the love in his eyes. She had known his remorse.
But none of that was real.
That was her imagination at work. Conjuring his face just to torture herself with his absence. Remembering the feel of his body and the love in his eyes, only to know that he hadn’t found her. Aching for one more view of him.
It had been fifty-five days since she’d last seen his face.
Reyna made a mark in the notebook next to the bed.
Fifty-six.

A startling new vision of paranormal romance: When a human ventures into the world of vampires—a decadent milieu of blood-bonds and betrayal—she discovers that not all is what it seems. For Reyna Carpenter, giving up her body isn’t a choice. It’s survival. In a civilization laid waste by poverty and desperation, Reyna accepts a high-paying position with the wealthy and hungry vampire elite. Her new job is as the live-in blood escort for the intimidating, demanding, and devilishly handsome Beckham Anderson. He’s everything she expected from a vampire, except for one thing—he won’t feed off her. Reyna soon discovers that behind Beckham’s brooding, wicked façade lies a unique and complex man. And that, in a dark and divided world, she is more valuable than she ever would have believed. For with each passing night, Reyna can’t shake the sensation that it’s Beckham who’s afraid of her. The stunning conclusion to the Blood Type series finds the world in chaos and turmoil with one final battle left to determine who will survive—humans or vampires. She had the world on her shoulders. Now she has nothing. Reyna Carpenter was twenty-one when she became a live-in blood escort for the ruthless and darkly handsome vampire Beckham Anderson. She thought this was just a small price to pay for feeding her brothers back home. But nothing went as planned. Not even her tumultuous relationship with Beckham. And now she wonders if anything will ever be the same again. As she finds herself in the midst of a losing rebellion, she and her trusted friends must flee from a city conquered by the vampire elite. With their plans blown to pieces and everything they knew and loved gone, their future hangs in the balance. Despite all she has lost, Reyna must rise from the ashes, reclaim the life that was stolen—and complete her mission, once and for all. ✦ ADD TO GOODREADSAmazon USAmazon UKiBooksB&NKoboGoogle Play

Review:

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

The book was lacking one big thing. Romance. And that tired and frustrated me because for half the book Eve and Max weren't in the same city or country or at the same mindset. I was expecting Max after the accident to realize that he was in love with Eve and couldn't live without her, but he kept singing the same tune as before. I still don't buy his change of heart. And as if that wasn't enough he was spending a lot of time with his ex. The same ex who cheated on him and ruined him for the other women. His relationship with her had a better development than the one he had with Eve. I was wishing she would dump his arse and move on with another man leaving Max to rot alone. He wasted 36 chapters on insisting that he and Eve were good enough without saying the "I love yous" or something that might resemble a relationship.

Here is also something that some of you might not like. Eve brings a treat to Max early in the book. That treat is another woman and they have a threesome. That's so not my thing since I don't like a third person added to the mix when there is not a triad. That not only threw me off but also turned me off because it was sudden.

I wouldn't recommend the book. It was frustrating and I wasn't even able to enjoy the angsty moments of it. Max is a bad hero and Eve deserved someone better. Contracted is the worst book in the series. I am looking forward to Scarlett's story though.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars

I tried to listen to the audiobook version of the book and I couldn't make it. The narrators were great at their job, but I couldn't connect with the story. I had conveniently forgotten that when I picked the ebook version. And on the very first chapter, the memories came back. We get to see Garrett been casual with Tara and eating (I think naked) their food only to have him end up with Callie. I was actually sold on the idea of him and Tara getting together and was let down when that didn't happen. After that I really tried to like the book, but I couldn't. What kind of teacher can afford to give each month a 500$ gift card? And what kind of policy is it?

The thing that bothered me the most was Garrett though and his manwhorish ways. Here are two parts of the book that prove that Garrett is a living example of what life with 100 STD is like. I don't understand how Callie can be ok with not using a condom. Quote #1: "Over the years I have touched lots of breasts. Hundreds. Probably thousands, if you count them separately." That means that he has slept with 500 women in his life of 34 years at least. I know that the manwhore theme is still selling, but he is a walking STD. My second favorite quote is this little gem "You don't get to call me a whole because of what I did to fix what you broke". I have said this before, don't try to blame on others the fact that you wanted your Johnie wet. Just say the words, I wanted to sleep with tons of other women. This cliche has to stop because is ridiculous. The third and final nail in the coffin came when Garrett admitted that the first woman he slept with after Callie was the girl Callie hated the most because she made her life a living hell.

I despised Garrett after all this and I couldn't believe how Callie took him back. She is way better off without him. The book was a disappointment especially considering that it came from an author whose books I enjoy.

Excerpt:

High school parking lots are one of the most dangerous places on earth. I don’t have statistics to back that up…but I know it’s true. I pull into the school parking lot Monday morning in my Dad’s giant, newly repaired mint-green Buick, with Back in Black by AC/DC blasting from the speakers. I feel tough, powerful—like I’m driving a tank. I’m a badass teacher—I’ll run you down even if you’re a student—I’ve got twenty-nine more in class just like you. The outfit helps too—leather boots, blue jeans, a starched white blouse and a black leather jacket. It’s my armor. The morning air is cool and crisp today, but I barely feel it. I’m locked and loaded and ready to roll. As I march towards the main entrance, I spot Garrett and Dean and Alison Bellinger outside the doors. They pause when they see me, waiting. “Damn,” Dean chuckles. “Callie’s got her shit-kickers on. Did you dig them out of a mosh pit from 1993?” Garrett crosses his arms. “Somebody’s channeling Michelle Pfiefer in Dangerous Minds.” He looks fantastic. His hair is tousled from the breeze and kisses his brow, and he’s wearing a dark blue sweater that’s snug around his biceps and soft, worn, light blue jeans. I remember his arms around me yesterday on my parent’s porch. The wonder and exhilaration of the moment. Of him. The intensity in his eyes, the desire and possessiveness in the grasp of his hands. The scorching feel of his mouth, his wet talented tongue that made my stomach swirl and my head spin. So much for not complicating things. But I’m not going to play head games with myself or Garrett—we’re too old for that shit. I have feelings for him—I always have—our break-up had nothing to do with either of us not wanting each other desperately. But these aren’t just leftover echoes of a sweet, first love—this is something new. A throbbing, breathless attraction to the amazing man he’s become. I want to be near him. I want to know him, inside and out, all over again. And he feels the same way. Garrett wants this version of me as much as he always did—maybe even more. I heard it in his whispered words and felt it in his kiss. I don’t know if we have a future, if it can go anywhere. We have separate lives on opposite ends of the country. But I’m not going to worry about that—for now, I’m going to take each day as it comes and enjoy every moment we can. Except for now. Now is not the time for enjoying or worrying or relationship building…now is the time for focusing. Now is the time to be ice and steel—don’t smile, don’t waver. “Little fucknutters don’t know who the hell they’re dealing with,” I growl. Allison pumps her fist. “That’s the spirit.” Garrett opens the door for me. “Go get ‘em, Gangster’s Paradise.”

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I liked the book with the exception of one little thing. Olivia's secret. When the revelation came, I thought it would have more impact on me as the reader. Instead, when I read it I was like, Is this it? I don't get why there was so much fuss about it. It obviously had more impact on the characters, but I feel like they were overreacting a tiny bit.

The rest of the book was great though and I had a great time reading it. I woke up at 5 am and I couldn't go back to sleep so I began reading this book. I slept like a baby again, after I finished the book. It was everything I was expecting from a novella and in this case, we didn't have insta-love or something similar so it was even better. It's a good addition to the series and it made me want to start reading the series once again.

If you are looking for a light, quick and easy read this is your book. It had everything I could have wanted and the people who are familiar with the series will be delighted to see some of the characters they already know and love. If you haven't read another book in the series yet, you can safely read this one, since it's a completely stand-alone story.

I don’t do relationships.
I’ve lived my life hiding my scars, revealing myself only the in the scripts I write and the characters I voice.
Few people know the real me. I’m too careful. Too afraid of getting burned all over again.
Enter Beverly Martin. A movie star. A woman so beautiful and caring she makes my heart ache. She says she wants me—and her touch almost makes me believe that a girl like her could love a man like me.
But being with her would mean letting the spotlight of fame shine on me, too. And I’m not sure I can do that—even if walking away means losing the woman I love.
**Light My Fire is part of a binge read series by New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Publishers Weekly, and #1 International bestselling author of the million copy Stark series, J. Kenner.
Each book in the series is a STANDALONE novel with NO cliffhanger and a guaranteed HEA!

Review:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

The first thing I did when I got this book was to check the epilogue and see who is going to be Brent's lady. As it turns out I got my wish and she is Elana, Tyree's daughter. I love them already and I can't wait for their book. Hopefully. we will see a lot of Brent's daughter and also I hope that the book will be longer in length. As you can understand after getting the happy news I began reading the book with a positive attitude and everything was going great until we were reminded once again about how Griffin came to know Meghan and he didn't spare any detail on that part. It really soured my mood. I know I haven't really gotten to the part where I say something about the main couple, but all the books are closely connected, so we can't avoid some characters and Meghan seems to be particularly a lot on the spotlight.

I have to say that the cover is a faithful representation of Griffin's character. I love that the model wears a hoodie. I don't usually pay attention to how much a cover represents the characters on the inside, but this one drew my attention. Griffin and Beverly are one of my favorite couples in the series. Beverly was a good woman who saw past Griffin's scars and never made him feel bad about himself. Griffin is hiding from the world after he got this scars and doesn't let many people in. Beverly, of course, finds a way to sneak in and the story after that is told in this book. I liked that the girl in the hospital called him out when his actions contradicted his words and he actually listened to her. He might be stubborn, but he is also wise.

Overall, the book was mostly good and I had a good time reading about the adventures of this couple. I hope we will see them in the next and final book or something like that. The book is one of the best in the series and I would recommend it.
