Review: Unconventional (The Manhattanites #4) by Avery Aster

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Publication Date: January 26, 2016

Blurb:

From the NYT Bestselling author of The Manhattanites series and for fans of such films as Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Wild Things comes a ménage romance posing the question; can two men share the same woman forever?

They are the best of friends and the greatest of lovers. Two men and one woman, searching for fortune and fame, bound together by an eroticism their money and power can’t buy them. Luigi, the romantic alpha hunk. Rocco, the exotic bisexual. Jemma, the insatiable beauty who possesses them both.

From their first rendezvous in Milan, the three set out on a wicked course, jet-setting from the kinky underground sex clubs of Berlin, to the lavish palaces of Moscow, to New York’s high society in pursuit of pleasure. They have only each other to care for. That is…until a baby comes along and changes their destiny. But which of them is the father? And will they continue their poly relationship or give in to convention?

Review:

I am familiar with the Manhattanites series since I read the first book, Unscrupulous, but I cannot say that I am a fan. I decided to read Unconventional because I love reading about polygamous relationships. I haven't read books #2 and #3 which means that I have lost some of the story. I lost the part where they fell in love. I don't believe this is a truly stand alone book. The author has connected her stories and it's hard to separate them even with the brief introductions in the beginning of the novel. A couple of pages explain who is who. It was nice considering that the reader won't have to go through the previous books to remember everything.

The story was short and rushed. It was only 140 pages out of the 250. The rest is mostly a huge excerpt from Avery Aster's upcoming book Unique. I wasn't okay with that to be honest. If it was a bonus novella, then I would have gladly gone on and read it, but once I learned that it was an excerpt I skipped it. I don't feel like that's fair for someone who is going to pay to read this book. I felt cheated and I got this book for free.

This story had a lot of potential, but unfortunately it didn't work out. The hot stuff where limited and so was the drama. And not to mention that the blurb spoils the whole book. I was waiting for a baby that came in the final lines of the book. Also, I am wondering how Jemma got pregnant since she had done chemo and refused to have her eggs frozen. Doesn't chemo eliminate the chances of a baby?

I wanted to see the trio trying to figure out their relationship which didn't happen. Maybe Rocco and Luigi could have given Jemma an ultimatum or something. I just wanted to read something. Things were too passive. Some things should have been mentioned and given more attention which sadly didn't happen.

I am not going to recommend this book. I felt like things were missing.

DUKES PREFER BLONDES
The Dressmakers #4
Loretta Chase
Releasing December 29th,2015
Avon Books

Lady Clara, the fan-favorite character from Loretta Chase’s New York Times and USA Today bestselling Dressmakers series, finally gets her own happily ever after!

Convenient marriages are rarely so…exciting. Can society’s most adored heiress and London’s most difficult bachelor fall victim to their own unruly desires?

Biweekly marriage proposals from men who can’t see beyond her (admittedly breathtaking) looks are starting to get on Lady Clara Fairfax’s nerves. Desperate to be something more than ornamental, she escapes to her favorite charity. When a child goes missing, she turns to Oliver Radford—a handsome, brilliant, excessively conceited barrister.

Having unexpectedly found himself in line to inherit a dukedom, Radford needs a bride who can navigate the Society he’s never been part of. If he can find one without having to set foot in a ballroom, so much the better. Clara—blonde, blue-eyed, and he must admit, not entirely bereft of brains—will do. As long as he can woo her, wed her—and not, like every other sapskull in London, lose his head over her…

Review:

You know, the one thing that was bugging me the most abut this book was the word Duke in the title. The blurb mentions something about Oliver inheriting, but for a little more than half of the book Oliver's cousin is alive and kicking. And I had forgotten the blurb so I was wondering what was going to happen. That was the thing that bugged me. The rest of the book was my cup of tea and I had plenty of fun reading it. The romance and the action have equal parts and nothing was missing out. Clara wasn't spineless and I liked her. She fought for what she wanted and I liked how well she played Oliver and made him do what his male brain wouldn't let him.

The rest of the books in the series are on my to-read list and this book gave me the motive to begin the series which I wanted to read for a long time. I am definitely going to recommend to read this book even if you haven't read the other three books in the series.

Review:Forever (This Series) by J.B. McGee

Synopsis

Tensions run high when Bradley rocks the boat of wedded bliss by inviting Gabe, Sam, Ryan, Joe, and their families to spend Christmas Day with Gabby and him.
Sam finds herself torn between the man she loves and the ones she thinks she doesn’t.
Will the rift between Gabby and Sam continue to spread? Will everyone be able to finally leave the past behind?
When tragedy strikes, will they realize everything is temporary except Forever?
Review:

Forever is the final book in the This series. It's like the epilogue of Bradley and Gabby's story and the whole story of Joe and Sam. The first half of the book is narrated by the two sisters, but after that the men take over for a while and they narrate some of it. It was pleasant for two reasons. A) We see some of Bradley's points of view which I don't think that needs any explaining as to why is good and B) It was easier to accept what Joe was thinking and why he was acting like he did.
I didn't read Forgiven in order to refresh things in my mind and that meant I didn't remember that Sam is in a relationship with Ryan, Joe;s brother. For me that was a fatal mistake because I had to read the first half of the book which was a HUGE LOVE TRIANGLE because Sam couldn't make the obvious decision. I hate two things in books, cheating and love triangles and I tend to avoid them. If I hadn't read the other books in the series I would have placed a lovely "I am not reading you" label on the book and be done with it.
One of the reasons I kept reading this book was Veronica and Ian. I know they weren't very good people, but after what happened to them, I couldn't help but feel ever more sympathetic than I made towards them. I wanted to see their happy ending and I was disappointed when they appeared for only a brief amount of time. I was sad when Gabby didn't even mention them in the epilogue. I wanted to see how they were fairing.
Overall, I am not sure how I felt about this book. It was the first book I managed to read after some time, but these two things mentioned above ruined things for me. Joe was one the best heroes (mostly) I had the pleasure to read about. Sam was a little over the place, but the others saved the day, I am leaving this book to your judgement.

Excerpt

“What you see from the road doesn’t come close to doing it justice.” I nudge Ryan. “Right, babe?”
He startles. “Huh?”
“I was just telling Rebecca and Joe the view from the road doesn’t do it justice.”
He shakes his head. “She’s right.” He smirks. “The woman’s always right.”
Joe’s eyes scrutinize me furtively. “Not always.”
I try to swallow, but my mouth is parched once again. “I’m gonna have one last drink before we go. Some wine to warm my veins against the cold.” Reaching down, I pick up the nearly empty bottle. “I’d offer some to y’all, but looks like Gabby and I have about finished this one.” I salute Ryan, then Joe, and ignore Rebecca. “Bottoms up.”
Joe blinks, but holds his lids closed a little longer than usual. His legs, which are touching mine, tense before he snatches the bottle. “I think you’ve had enough.”
“I’m not drunk, and seriously, what do you care?” I puff my chest out at him. I’m sick of him acting like he’s my babysitter tonight. I peek past him at Rebecca. “How do you handle his bossiness?”
She smiles, but it doesn’t reach her eyes. “I guess he feels like you’re his little sister, and he’s just trying to protect you.” She winks at me, and I want to slap her. No. I don’t. Because I’m not an aggressive drunk, and I’m not even all that loopy anymore. I’m not my father. Maybe Joe’s right. Maybe I’ve had enough. “Anyway,” she says. “He seems to prefer me bossing him around, if you know what I mean.” Maybe me wanting to slap her has nothing to do with the fact I’ve been drinking and everything to do with her being a bitch?
Joe’s head whips back to her. “Really?” Thoughts of when Joe mentioned dropping to his knees and begging me not to move pop into my mind. Maybe he likes being on his knees. Everything in me tries to contain the smile that wants to curve on my lips and the giggles that want to fall out of them.
Ryan bursts into laughter. “So, you’re a dominatrix, Rebecca?”
“I guess you could say that.” Her tone has changed. It’s not as perky, warm. “See, there was this guy in college I screwed around with. Everything was always on his terms and never mine. He treated me great in private, and like I was a piece of trash in public.” Did she date my sister’s ex too? Because I swear she’s describing Ian, but he’s a good bit younger than her. They wouldn’t have been at Tech during the same time. My head twists between the two of them.
“Maybe he liked you, but didn’t know how to show it. Maybe he was afraid. Maybe it was bad timing for a relationship.”
Sometimes Ryan can be a complete idiot, and I’m ashamed of what comes out of his mouth. I interject, “So bad timing for a relationship gives the douche permission to treat her like trash?” Even if I’m not her biggest fan, hearing her story is like listening to my Gabby’s. It’s too personal. The fact Ryan is even attempting to defend such horrible behavior appalls me. “Last time I checked, the answer is no.”
“Exactly. Thank you, Sam. Anyway, he made me realize the best way to protect my heart was to control every aspect. So, I guess you could say I’m a dominatrix if you want. I’m not really into my men having to be beaten into submission to have sex with me, though.”
She cuts her eyes at Joe, who has his head down. I hear him mumble something, but can’t make out the words. He’s rubbing his palms on his pants. Why is he letting her say all this? “Anyway, I prefer my men begging for me, but I need the control. First rule is in order to have sex with me, you have to court me.”
Ryan bellows. “So. Let me get this straight. You’re either saying my little brother lets you control him? Or…”

Dirty Billionaire (The Dirty Billionaire Trilogy, #1) by Meghan March

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Date of Publication: December 8, 2015

Blurb:

I've got a big dick and an even bigger bank account. That's pretty much where my bio ends. Honestly, I don't need to say anything else. I've just sold 99% of women on going home with me. Do I sound like an asshole to you? That's because I am. And guess what? It works for me just fine. Or at least it did. Until I met her. Books talk about sparks flying. Fuck that shit. With her, it was like emergency flares mixed with jet fuel. Or maybe just straight up napalm. Only one problem. She wouldn't tell me her name or her number when she disappeared from the hotel room after the hottest fucking night of my life. Now I've had a taste of unicorn pussy—the sweetest, rarest of all pussy—and I need it again. So what's an asshole to do? I took this problem to the street. A missed connection gone viral. And when I find her? I'm keeping her.

Review:

When I signed up to review this book, I signed up for the whole trilogy and I thought that I was going to get the three books at once. Unfortunately, only Dirty Billionaire has arrived at my kindle so far and I have to suffer because as some of you might have guessed, the book ends with a very nice cliffhanger. Now I am waiting for the second book which will be out in less than a month's time.

I liked Holly mostly because she is feisty and has some kind of backbone. She is not the doormat most heroines are in this genre of books. Creighton is as cocky and arrogant as he seems in the blurb. I want to see his soft side (if there is one).

The blurb doesn't say much about the book and I believe that the reader should know what he is about to buy. Holly is a rising country singer who has won a show and is now under a contract with a firm which states that she has to be the pretend girlfriend of a country star whose days of glory are almost over. When she decides to give her a present for Christmas she chooses to spend a night with a man, something that is forbidden due to her contract, and as you can guess that man is Creighton. She leaves before Creighton wakes up and when he does, he is very determined to find her.

From the paragraph above, you can see that it's insta lust and I am mentioning this in case you don't like it. The first book just sets the ground for the next two books and I will be able to say more in my latest reviews. I want to see what is going to happen next and I am very glad that the next book will be out soon.

I am going to recommend this book to everyone, but the ones who hate the insta love/lust thing. It's a great book and it leaves you wanting more.

Holly COUNTRY STAR JC HUGHES CAUGHT BETWEEN A COCK AND A HARD PLACE How is he going to explain this one away to girlfriend Holly Wix and his fans? “That two-timin’ son of a . . .” I hiss under my breath as I stare at the headline—and the compromising picture accompanying it—splashed in vivid color across the front page of the gossip rag displayed prominently in the checkout line at my supermarket. For the second time in two months, it’s a picture of my “boyfriend” locked in an unmistakably passionate embrace with another woman, except this time she’s wearing a giant black strap-on. The edges of the paper crumple in my sweaty grip, and I fight the urge to tear it to shreds, along with every copy sitting on the rack in front of me. He’s going to destroy my career before it even has a chance to become a reality. One year, they said. One year in this joke of a “relationship” and I’d earn my stripes, be all set in the world of country music. Judge me all you want for agreeing, but when your brand-new record label puts something like that in the contract that will jet you out of the backwoods town you’re dying to escape, you don’t ask questions. You sign on the dotted line. But reality is a cold slap in the face, and some days it hits you when you’re standing in line at the grocery store. What happens when they finally catch JC with a guy? His habit of swinging both ways, but preferring men to women, is about to become the worst-kept secret in Nashville. I’m Holly Wix, winner of a make-me-a-star TV show, and handpicked by the label to buoy JC’s once-impressive but now flagging career. It didn’t seem like a big deal when they slipped it into my contract in the beginning. What starry-eyed girl wouldn’t be thrilled to have her name linked to a country star? Instead of the one-way ticket to stardom I naively expected, I’m becoming the butt of every industry joke faster than the guys back home can spend their paycheck on twelve-packs and scratch-offs. But I’ve got one shot at keeping this dream career alive, and honestly, there’s nothing I wouldn’t do to save it. So this situation with JC needs to get settled before things spiral further out of control.

“ ‘I find I just want to get to know you.’ ‘That’s all?’ Powerful words. Frightening, too. Almost as though reading her thoughts, Dan added, ‘Of course, I want to fuck you, too.’ ‘Of course,’ she added with a smile. ‘What do you propose?’ Louise kept her eyes on the kitchen, not daring to face him, instead watching from the corner of her eyes. ‘Given the choice, I'd like to continue where we left off, with you on all fours.’ His hand found her chin and he turned her to face him. Sliding the hair from her shoulders, he pulled the strands through his fingers where they shone like the sun. ‘Given the opportunity, I’d like to place my hands around your neck, feel your breath under my palm. Given your encouragement, I’d peel you out of your clothes, and slide my fingers through that slick, pink ribbon between your legs.’ His words were a bare whisper, intensity burning and branding her skin. ‘And when you’ve given me everything, and you’re rung wet and shaking, I’d make you come on my tongue.’ She swallowed audibly. It didn't hide the libidinous lilt in her voice, the longing as she said, ‘So what’s your plan?’ ‘Date night.’ His hands cupped her face and then he whispered, ‘Because I’m all about the anticipation.’ ‘You mean you’re a tease.’ ‘You couldn’t possibly know.’ He smiled once more, his eyes shining with a mixture of design and delight. ‘But you could definitely find out.’

Donna Alam writes about exotic locations and the men you aren't married to, but might wish you were. Escapism reads with heart and humour and, of course, plenty of steam.
Hailing from the North of England, she's a nomad at heart moving houses and continents more times than she cares to recall. She once worked at a school like the one described in her Pretty Trilogy. Alas, there were no handsome millionaires hanging around there.
Eclectic reader and part-time perv, Donna is a huge fan of smart men and protagonists with a fair measure of inappropriateness.

Review: To Catch His Mate (Crescent Moon #5) by Savannah Stuart

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Publication Date: December 15, 2015

Blurb:

When she ran, she didn’t think he’d follow…

Pack princess Alyssa Clare was trying to come up with ways to get out of her arranged mating to alpha wolf Reece O’Shea—until she meets the powerful male. After getting to know him, mating doesn’t seem like such a bad idea anymore. But when he makes it clear she’s just a business arrangement for him and his pack, she calls off the mating and heads south to stay with a friend to lick her wounds in private.

But he’s not willing to let her go without a fight.

Reece can’t let Alyssa go, not when he’s completely fallen for the sweet, sexy female. He doesn’t care about the arranged mating deal, he just wants her and has no idea why she ran. To win her back he infiltrates another alpha’s territory, knowing it could mean his death. Luckily Grant Kincaid allows him in his domain—as long as Alyssa is okay with it. Convincing her that she’s all he wants is a bigger challenge than he imagined. But he’s not giving up, because he knows she’s the one he’s meant to be with forever.

Length: NOVELLA

Review:

I love short paranormal books so there was a very big chance I was going to love this one too. Like To Catch His Mate most of these novella's have angst and the werewolf possessiveness, two things that I read reading about. The misunderstanding that happened, aka Alyssa thinks that Reece didn't want her, causes a lot of trouble and that caused some glee for me simply because Reece was going to have to fight for Alyssa in order to get her back. That is good for one reason. It gave the characters time and the chance to the characters to fall for each other and consequently to satisfy the reader. I don't care if this book has the insta love/lust thing. When you go to buy a werewolf novella you have to know what you are going to read. The length for me was perfect because lately I don't have much time for anything and this book gave me the chance to read something in a short amount of time while giving me the chance to enjoy many aspects of a romance novel.

Review: Hard to Forget (Alpha's Heart #3) by Bella Jewel

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Publication Date: December 15 2015

Blurb:

Delaney, a professional bodyguard, has spent years trying to prove herself in a male dominated industry. Now she's facing her greatest challenge yet.
Bad boy billionaire Jax Shields has made plenty of enemies on his climb to the top, but being in the wrong place at the wrong time has put his life at risk. Now he's putting his life in the hands of Delaney and her team. He demands the best in everything, and he doesn't think she has what it takes to protect him. He's also made it clear he'd rather have her on her back then covering his. Will Delaney be able to prove herself to the most arrogant—and devastatingly handsome—man she's ever met?
**Hard To Forget is a full-length standalone romance with a HEA**

Review:

I like the series, but I am disappointed with this book. If there was only one thing I would have let it go, but unfortunately there wasn't just one problem. Jax is acting like a jerk towards Delaney and he had no respect for her which was rather annoying after some point because it was going on for some time. He is sexist. He doesn't believe that Delaney can do her job as well as the men on her team can and he is not afraid to show it. I wanted to see her, getting to see her getting hurt at some point just to make Jax realize how good she was. Something like that happened and that kind of made me like the book a little. Also did not like how much unnecessary drama Jax had in his life or the fact that he was sleeping with other women and we had to see it. I am not sure if Red will get a book, but I am not sure if I want to read that book. Unfortunately, this wasn't the book for me and I am not going to recommend this to someone. Delaney is a great heroine and that saves the book from being a complete disaster. She is feisty and she is spirited which I loved. Most of the men in her life are against her believing that she can't do the job as well as her, but she is trying her best to prove them wrong.
